Starting hourly rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and will vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement.
Customer Service Associate - $16.53 – 21.15 Courtesy Clerk/Bagger - $16.53 – 16.78 City of Seattle Labor Agreements start at $18.94/hour.  Responsibilities: Safeway Cashier-Checker employees are generally responsible for completing the following job duties:
Provide customer service as currently defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy. Handle groceries of varying weights. Operate electronically scanning cash register to total customers' final bill. Responsible for ringing up all merchandise including product on bottom of grocery cart. Receive payment for customer purchase. Bag groceries in plastic, canvas or paper bags. Lift bags into grocery cart. Offer customer assistance with carry out, and perform that task if a Courtesy Clerk is not available. Maintain a clean and safe work area. Includes check stand area (belt and glass), and facing and straightening up end display areas near check stand Replace stock in displays surrounding the checkout area as needed. 8. Other duties as assigned Courtesy Clerk Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with emphasis on fast, friendly, and excellent customer service. Maintains a friendly and cooperative working relationship with co-workers and supervisors. Assists customers with product location, bagging orders and by offering and providing carry-out service. Verifies prices, returns merchandise from check stand to shelves, obtains products as requested by customer or checker, retrieves shopping carts from parking lot, assures adequate supply of bags and processes bottle returns according to proper procedure. Keeps parking lot and customer areas clean. Responsible for maintaining Company cleanliness and safety standards in store aisles, entry ways, parking lot and restrooms and properly completing required work logs. Responsible for staying current on product location, new products, sales and promotions, and ensuring a safe and secure work area. Responsible for keeping checkstand area clean, neat and properly stocked. Performs other duties as required or directed, such as stocking, cleaning and rotating merchandise Responsible for performing all job duties accurately, safely and with honesty and integrity. Represents the store in a positive manner to the customers and the public Qualification: Cashier Checker -Ability to be friendly, courteous, tactful and to maintain composure in dealing with customers and co-workers. Must possess good oral communication skills. Ability to understand and follow instructions, deal with potentially difficult situations and be a team player. Ability to understand and accept instructions and to communicate with co-workers and the public. Frequently reaches, lifts, stacks and maneuvers objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 55 lbs. Ability to do repetitious work accurately and operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales. Ability to identify situations that may require immediate attention or intervention and to react according to company policies and procedures. Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary. Ability to learn and memorize a consideration amount of information. Must possess mental alertness and basic mathematics skills. Ability to present a positive image to the public. Complies with all Company policies including safety, loss prevention, attendance, grooming standards and dress codes. May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. Scheduled hours will vary. Good attendance is required. Courtesy Clerk-. Ability to follow company customer service procedures. Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience. Ability to interact with customers and co-workers. Ability to understand and follow instructions.
