Summary: The Front End Assistant Manager assists the Front End Manager in directing the overall operations of the front end and all the front end team including cashiers, service desk, utility clerks and front end supervisors. The Front End Assistant Manager ensures training of front end team members, focusing on utility clerks but knowledgeable of all positions. The Front End Assistant Manager aids team members and customers and maintains complaint resolution as needed with an energetic demeanor. This position requires adhering to all procedural guidelines set by Metcalfe's Market.

Availability: This position requires working evenings, weekends and holidays, based on department staffing requirements. Essential Duties: Essential job duties for this position include the following items. Other duties must be performed as assigned or required. Operations:
Assists in directing overall operations of the front end with a focus on utility clerks. Forecasts and writes schedule to support peak traffic times, key holiday events and weekends for utility clerks.  Manages availability and attendance for utility clerks, including timekeeping, PTO requests and payroll sign offs.  Supports the entire department's staff efforts and works through timely response to questions, with a caring and appreciative attitude and demonstated effectiveness in dealing with employee issues.  Monitors and addresses customer issues or questions and quickly responses to negative shopping experoence by de-escalating the situation.  Stay current with changing company technology, including software programs.  Upholds, supports, and promotes all company policies and procedures.  Follows safe food handling and local health department standards.  Sustains a high level of product knowledge. Assists in management of operations, to ensure compliance with rules and regulations surrounding, but not limited to, WIC, Lottery, Tobacco and Liquor Sales, Coupons, Team Memeber Discount and other front-end services.  Assists in management of operations to ensure PCI DSS compliance and training is completed and followed.  Training:
Leads and manages utility clerk training, checking for understanding. Expects and enables team to stay up-to-date on upcoming major promotions, brand launches and events.  Assists in training for cashiers, service desk clerks, and front-end supervisors.  Acts as champion of Metcalfe's offerings to ensure front-end team can inform, educate and promote loyalty program, On-the-Go and other service options available.  Leads, coaches, teaches and reinforces Metcalfe's culture, customer service and performance expectations to utility clerks by engagng in consistent, meaningful devlopment conversations as warrented.  Supervisory:
Provides insight and input in utility clerk personnel decisions such as hire, discipline, reward and termination. Evaluates and recommends team members for advancement in the department and open positions. Maintains accurate personnel records for all direct reports. Maintains a safe work environment for employees, vendors and customers. Works toward continuous quality improvement. Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: The Front End Assistant Manager has supervisory responsibility for utility clerks including approximately 25-35 direct reports. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, the Front End Assistant Manager must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum knowledge, skills and ability required. Education/Experience:
High School diploma/equivalent required, Associate's degree (A.A.) or technical school training preferred. Accounting skills preferred. One or more year(s) of management/supervisory experience in a fast-paced retail environment. Must have strong people management skills.  Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work well under pressure and in a diverse, fast-paced and stressful environment. Proficient with the use of a computer and Microsoft Office Suite- More specifically, Outlook, Word and Excel. Superb customer service skills. Positive attitude. Excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to shift focus in response to changing priorities.  Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
CPR/AED Certification Required, Metcalfe's will help certify if needed Wisconsin Liquor Operator License Preferred, Metcalfe's will pay to certify if needed.
