Chatham Hall is in the very exciting position of carrying out the final pieces of its most recent strategic plan and developing a new plan. At the core of that plan is the health and wellness initiative which strives to create balance in the lives of both students and adults. Aspects of "Living Well At Chatham Hall" include:
-Welcoming Sara Stephenson as new Rector (Head of School), in July, 2024
-Breaking ground on a new health and wellness facility that includes gymnasium, health center, student spaces, dance studio, fitness center. The facility will open for the ******** school year.
-Moving away from AP classes in favor of our own advanced classes (implemented ******** )
-Implementing a January Term in the ******** school year.
Beyond these dynamic initiatives, we have also looked closely at diversity, equity, and inclusion, wanting to ensure that we are providing role models for all of our students in this diverse and warm community as well as a curriculum that reflects the world in which we live. To that end, we have engaged consultant Trina Gary, principal consultant at Brown-Gary Associates, LLC, who carried out our climate assessment and led several professional development workshops on the topic of implicit bias and other pertinent subjects. Additionally, we have engaged Ayo Magwood, principal of Uprooting Inequity to educate adults on the history of race and racism. Chatham Hall is committed to ensuring that students and adults feel included in this diverse community. Lisa Damour has worked with the faculty on the trauma that has impacted students and teachers in recent years, as well as what it means to be a teenager in these times.
Position Responsibilities: Prepare for and teach up to five sections of French as well as provide timely and meaningful feedback to student work. Communication is stressed as is working with students on 21st century skills - critical thinking, communication, creativity, collaboration, among others - to prepare students for their futures. All teaching faculty are responsible for using the learning management system to post assignments and to provide feedback in order to allow students to move forward knowledgeably.
Other Responsibilities: In this dynamic community, teachers serve as advisors to a small group of students, keeping track of their academic progress, social involvement, and creating a family away from home. Teachers contribute to the residential life by living on-dorm and getting to know students in that realm. Teachers also participate in some way in the athletic program as well as weekend activities and the committee work that helps us continue to grow and move forward as a community.
