Fleet Services Technician Location Lakeland, FL (Shore Acres area) : GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS Work performed in this technical function involves inspection and assessment of vehicles, servicing document preparation, customer interaction, scrutiny and identification of required parts and materials, material pre-staging, and organizing prioritized vehicle work needs. An employee in this classification will carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision. A supervisor reviews work through observation and reports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Performs service writer operations as Fleet Management customers' primary point of contact. Debriefs vehicle operators and physically assesses condition of vehicles and equipment turned in for maintenance. Prepares vehicle work requests in a standardized format. Routes work requests to appropriate shop sections for further action. Inputs completed work order data into the fleet management information system. Runs data reports as requested. Performs monthly maintenance billing functions. Manages preventive maintenance program schedule, appointment system, and notification procedures. Performs triage parts processing for work requests awaiting the start of repairs. Periodically assesses receipt, storage, and issuance of parts, materials, supplies, and equipment as Fleet Management parts store single point of contact. May be required to work overtime or alternate hours as necessary for the efficient operation of the department. Position designated as Mission Critical by Department Director. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: Researches, manages, and maintains products for environmental programs, including material safety data sheet (MSDS) library research and updates. Researches and screens shop chemicals to reduce hazardous materials and provide standardization. Performs related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE) AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS High school diploma from an accredited school or its equivalent. Two (2) years of experience in service writing, billing, customer service, parts technician, data entry, program scheduling, or similar work experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills, abilities, and other competencies necessary for success in the target position may be considered. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must possess and maintain a valid telephone number. ASE Certification in Automobile Service Consultant and/or Parts Specialist within one year of employment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS General knowledge of automotive and equipment systems. Basic knowledge of automotive parts, materials, and supplies. Knowledge of storekeeping and shipping methods and practices. Ability to make mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy. Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-skilled-type atmosphere. Ability to work on an automated maintenance and inventory control system and input data accurately and timely. Ability to maintain complex records, prepare reports, file, and perform other clerical work. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, City employees, and the public. Ability and willingness to complete job tasks safely and efficiently. WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires manual work, which involves walking and standing often, repetitive keyboarding, climbing stairs and ladders, stooping, stretching, reaching, and bending. Employee may be exposed to hot or cold temperatures, adverse weather conditions, noxious odors, heights, bright/dim lights, and wet, humid conditions. All City of Lakeland positions are subject to testing (e.g. written, oral, performance, computerized, interview, and/or any combination).
