Job Description: Financial Controller
Overview:
Our client is seeking a financial controller to oversees the financial operations of their thriving law firm. The ideal candidate will hold a CPA, have 3 years of comparable experience managing accounting functions within a law firm setting with solid knowledge of the Law Society of BC Trust rules and be able to meet deadlines and manage time efficiently while working under pressure. You will also be able to exercise discretion and confidentiality at all times and work autonomously while building rapport with the team and working collaboratively. In the role you will liaise with external vendors and auditors and will train the team on policies, processes and procedures to ensure compliance.
A snapshot of your responsibilities:
* Prepare and oversees monthly billing, financial statements, general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, trust and bank accounts.
* Post and process financial functions and oversee A/R, A/P, and trust accounting.
* Prepare and oversee PST, GST, EHT, WorkSafe BC, and TAF returns.
* Prepares year-end reporting and the annual Law Society of BC Trust report.
* Ensures compliance with the Law Society of BC.
* Develop internal controls and daily accounting functions.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
* Professional accounting designation (CGA or CPA).
* 3 years experience working within a law firm setting.
* Proficient working knowledge of MS Office programs, record keeping, and document management software.
