The Emergency Financial Representative plays a crucial role in ensuring reimbursement from patients or relevant parties, while also aiding patients in comprehending their healthcare insurance coverage by assessing eligibility, benefits, and utilization requirements. This position entails upfront point-of-service (POS) collections and establishing suitable financial arrangements with patients to prevent bad debt. Moreover, the Emergency Financial Representative assists patients in accessing programs like Medi-Cal, Uncompensated Care, and Hospital Presumptive Eligibility when necessary.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Capable of liaising with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients directly. Proficiency in revenue generation through POS collections and establishing payment plans, including the collection of Self-Pay and/or high-liability accounts during registration. Possesses knowledge and experience with EMTALA regulations. Exhibits attention to detail and adherence to follow-up procedures. Effective and tactful communication skills with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance entities. Strong English language skills in reading, comprehension, writing, spelling, and penmanship. Excellent mathematical aptitude for accurately calculating copay or percentage of financial estimates, and establishing payment plans. Ability to follow established policies and supervisor directives. Proficient computer skills, including a minimum typing speed of 45+ words per minute and familiarity with MS Office programs. Exceptional organizational skills. Capacity for independent judgment during emergencies. Bilingual proficiency is desirable. Interaction with various levels of hospital and external vendor staff, with knowledge of relevant government regulations. Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment. Adherence to stringent privacy policies and procedures mandated by state and federal laws, including HIPAA Security and Privacy Rules. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
Minimum of two years' experience in front office/medical billing or current hospital registration/admitting. Minimum of two years' experience in insurance verification and/or medical/hospital billing. High school diploma or equivalent required; evidence of continuing education in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration preferred. Familiarity with eligibility requirements for various programs including Medi-Cal, Medicare, Covered California, etc., and knowledge of IPA systems. Proficiency in medical terminology. Strong communication skills. Demonstrated adaptability to change. Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make informed decisions. Provides graceful, empathetic, and respectful customer service consistently. Job Type: Contract
