The Service Technician Apprentice is a front-line employee with direct customer contact and is a valued, essential part of the company's success; in addition to technical skills, people skills are vital for effective customer relationship management and decision-making.
1. Assist Field Service Technician in troubleshooting and repairing customer cranes, crane
systems and other lifting components as directed
2. Assist Field Service Technician with Installing various types of cranes, hoists, components and
parts
3. Assist Field Service Technician with Modernizing or upgrading various types of cranes, hoists,
components and parts
4. Assist Field Service Technician with load testing and /or performing non-destructive testing
various types of cranes, hoists, components and parts
5. Assist Field Service Technician in Setting up, operating, and maintaining all service equipment
6. Responsible for working safely and in accordance with customer, company, and
OSHA requirements.
7. Display a professional image and conduct at all times, especially when oncustomer
property
8. Responsible for learning and understanding various crane type codes and inspection criteria
9. Assist Field Service Technician with inspecting hoists, cranes, crane systems, chain falls,
pullers, slings and below-the-hook devices
10.Complete daily paperwork accurately including time-entry
11.Assist Field Service Technician with special projects as requested
12.Keep training assignments current
13.Perform other duties as assigned Education
• A high school diploma, vocational-technical school or crane training program, trade school,
equivalent military experience or technical college training program preferred.
Experience & Skills
• Must be a motivated self-starter
• Basic electrical knowledge or training to include three-phase power is preferred
• Basic mechanical knowledge & aptitude
• Basic mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting & diagnostics skills
• Ability to understand and comprehend electrical motor and variable frequency drive training
• Ability to operate forklift
• Ability to operate aerial lift equipment
• Must be able to work individual or as part of a team
• Must be comfortable working at heights
• Must be proficient in "CUSTOMER SERVICE" skills
• Short term over-night travel may be required
• Strong communication skills needed
• Willingness to stay educated in the crane industry. As cranes become increasingly
sophisticated, service techs need to be increasingly computer literate and technologically
savvy
• Current Driver's License in good standing
• Flexible work schedule in order to meet customer's scheduling requirements.
Unexpected working hours are a common occurrence
• Heavy lifting/pulling (min 75 lbs) is generally a part of this type of work
• Must successfully complete a criminal background check, physical, drug screen and E-verify
