Strategic Communications Manager - ********
This advertisement is for a SES position located at Central Office in the Office of Communications.
Salary Rate: $63,000.34 annually
SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY.
The incumbent in this position is considered to have regulatory responsibilities and is subject to the provisions of Chapter 60L-36, Florida Administrative Code. The incumbent in this position is expected to become familiar in the department's reentry initiatives; display leadership skills that demonstrate the department's commitment to reentry efforts for offenders while maintaining a professional demeanor.
As a supervisor, this position communicates with, motivates, provide or coordinates training, evaluates employee's work, plans, and directs the employees' work, and has authority to hire or recommend the hire, transfer, or discipline subordinate employee.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
+

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing internal and strategic communications of Department's Office of Communications.
+

Serves as a Regional Communications Coordinator (RCC) liaison regarding known digital media best practices, department branding, and emerging trends for all program areas, regions, institutions, and offices.
+

Creates and disseminates the Department's statewide in-house publications.
+

Collect and process relevant information in the appropriate format, such as press release, social media, web post, or other method of delivery.
+

Format and edit documents, publications and presentations for program offices and department leadership.
+

Staff press conference, media events, editorial boards, groundbreakings, ribbon-cuttings, bill-signings, public meetings, and media events.
+

Establish an internal communications strategy in conjunction with the Department Director.
+

Ensure Department initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders.
+

Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as a staff intranet, monthly deliverables, or regular email bulletin.
+

Storyboard or translate ideas to the creative team.
+

Deliver presentations at statewide events.
+

Draft messages or scripts from leadership for presentation to employees in written or spoken form.
+

Ensure internal communication messages are consistent across all mediums and for different areas of the Department.
+

Ensure internal communications messages are consistent with external communication messages.
+

Respond to feedback from staff and adjust communication content accordingly.
+

Handle the internal communication response to crisis situations which affect organizational perception and reputation.
+

Advise Executive Leadership team members of developments throughout the organization, either face to face or through regular written communication.
+

Perform other responsibilities as deemed appropriate.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
+

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of public relations, public information, mass communications, journalism, news reporting, editing, advertising, marketing, or photography
+

Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
+

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
+

Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
+

Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services including needs assessment techniques, quality service standards, alternative delivery systems, and customer satisfaction evaluation techniques.
+

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
+

Ability to use independent judgment in handling media inquiries and news releases.
+

Ability to research topics and write articles or prepare information for dissemination.
+

Ability to coordinate the planning, preparation and dissemination of new releases, newsletters, speeches, and other materials.
+

Ability to communicate effectively with others in writing as indicated buy the needs of the audience.
+

Skills in knowing how to find information and identifying essential functions.
+

Skills in using logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weakness of different approaches.
+

Skills in developing approaches for implementing an idea.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university AND one year of professional experience in news reporting, editing, public relations, public information, advertising, marketing, mass communications, or journalism.
+

A master's degree from an accredited college or university in communications or English can substitute for one year of the required experience.
+

Professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
