Job Summary: The Wisconsin Union is looking for a motivated maintenance technician to join our facilities team. This position will work with other technicians, mechanics, and trades staff to keep our buildings and grounds beautiful and functioning perfectly. The successful person in this position will be able to work well as part of a team but will also have the experience necessary to independently problem solve mechanical and maintenance issues. Responsibilities: Inspects, maintains, and repairs basic equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage. Assists with construction, and operational maintenance as needed. 20% Utilizes equipment to repair and maintain standard machinery, equipment, and facility property to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation 20% Performs routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness 20% Troubleshoots, escalates, and documents issues according to established policies and procedures 20% Assists trades, crafts, vendors, and technical staff with construction, design, and operational maintenance as needed 20% Plant and maintain seasonal flowers in all the properties designated flower beds, and indoor flowers and plants as well. Tasks: Assist in carpentry, plumbing and electrical Completing daily maintenance requests (clearing clogged sinks and shower drains, unclogging toilets, replacing burnt out light bulbs, replacing garbage disposals, fixing door locks and closers) Appliance repair (flat grills, fridges, microwaves, dishwashers, stoves, washers, dryers, freezers, coolers) Performing repairs/replacement on flooring and ceiling materials Drywall repair Performing preventative maintenance on facility systems and equipment Performing capital upgrades on assigned facilities Snow removal on occasion Design and install annual flower beds, to include seasonal gardening such as flower bed maintenance, watering, and other gardening responsibilities as prescribed Perform basic grounds maintenance such as mowing grass, emptying bins, managing weed control, and leaf raking as required Qualify to operate equipment such as forklifts, powered floor jacks, and man lifts Work with a variety of standard, powered, and pneumatic hand tools as well as basic light machinery Be in the emergency on-call rotation. Qualifications: Required:
*Experience working in a building maintenance, mechanical repair, gardening/landscaping, or similar setting.
*Driver's license- valid and meets UW Risk Management Standards
*Excellent customer service and communication skills
*Strong attention to detail
*Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.

License/Certification: Required

Work Schedule: Core hours are Monday thru Friday 6:30 am to 3:30 pm with the occasional Saturday as needed. Special event weekends like Badger Bash, Homecoming, Labor Day and Commencement are part of the schedule. Approximately once every 9 weeks this position will be in the emergency on-call rotation. Although this is the expected schedule it could vary based on business needs.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Additional Information: The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.
