Description JOB TITLE: Elementary (K-5) Virtual Learning Special Education Teacher DEPARTMENT: Teaching and Learning REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Elementary Virtual Learning Administrator/Director of Special Services FLSA STATUS: Exempt CONTRACT STATUS: Extra Duty ($2,250 per semester) APPROVED BY: Charlene Duncan APPROVED DATE: 7/28/21 SUMMARY: Owasso Public Schools will offer virtual learning services for elementary special education students in grades K-5. These services will be offered remotely utilizing the Acellus Program as the learning management system. Program relevance will be evaluated on a 9 weeks basis. This position will support elementary special education students participating in the program who are placed on your virtual learning roster. Teachers will provide academic support to virtual students outside of their regular school hours to facilitate, monitor, and motivate students as they work their way through the online curriculum. *Note: The virtual special education teacher is not responsible for writing or maintaining the IEP, Progress Reports, or Special Education Parent Meetings. This will remain the responsibility of the Special Education Teacher of Record. Sets high standards and expectations for self and others. Collaborates with and receives direction from the elementary virtual services administrator and the Director of Special Education. Collaborates with the special education teacher of record and school administrators as needed Review of online work and pacing Interaction with students by motivating & mentoring, Monitor student progress weekly Modify and create assignments as needed Manage student behavior to encourage the best possible student educational experience. Interact with and participate in consultations with specialists as appropriate in order to plan and prepare each child's individualized educational program in accordance with goals. Communicate with students, parents, special education teacher of record and building principal regarding student progress Tutoring/re-teaching as needed Course administration duties - setting up courses, setting start/target dates, customizing courses for students, etc. Assists in gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data related to student performance. Monitors enrollment and re-enrollment processes, student progress, pacing, and completion rates, ensuring that targets are met. Prepares and submits student performance reports for staff, students, and parents. Promotes and supports professional development through training and in-service. Attends support team meetings to provide interventions to students experiencing difficulty in online coursework. May be asked to attend IEP Meetings for input on student's progress. Special projects Other duties as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field Valid Oklahoma Elementary Teaching Certificate Valid Oklahoma Early Childhood Teaching Certificate Valid Oklahoma Special Education Teaching Certificate in Mild-Moderate KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability; strong knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and laws applicable to education and special education. Ability to follow all district policies and procedures. Ability to work independently, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for the tasks being done. Demonstrating strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators. Ability to work without supervision, and work as a team player. Ability to document records accurately. Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students, families, and employees. Ability to listen effectively. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the English language. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS: Current driver's license in good standing.
