Job Description

As the Executive Director of Investments, you will work directly with the Chief Investment Officer to develop investment strategies, manager research, and due diligence across multi-asset portfolios consisting of the Investment Portfolio, Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Trusts, and Pension portfolios. Coordinate quarterly strategic reviews of all investment programs with the Investment Committee of the Board of Directors. Responsible for internal manager due diligence with existing and potential managers. Supervises and develops junior members of the Investment Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Collaborate with the Chief Investment Officer and investment consultant(s) regarding the overall asset allocation, investment strategy, and portfolio construction of the Investment Portfolio. Coordinates quarterly strategic reviews of all investment programs with the Investment Committee, and presents topical analysis relevant to the decision-making process for and implementation of Investment Portfolio strategies.
2. Serve as investment leader for the Investment Department alongside CIO. Develop and implement investment strategy for the entire portfolio as well as asset class level investment strategies. Identify prospective investment opportunities and lead due diligence efforts. Maintain relationships with existing investment managers, including an ongoing quantitative and qualitative assessment of portfolios, strategy, businesses, and market opportunities. Research and due diligence are conducted with managers at ALSAC NEO, virtually, and on-site at the investment managers' offices. Requires use of a personal computer and regular travel.
3. Lead discussion on new and emerging investment ideas and develop junior analysts to think strategically and with an investor's lens. Play an integral role in recruiting, management, mentoring, and professional and career development of junior team members.
4. Proactively lead the Investment Consultant relationship, prepare and present quarterly and ad hoc investment updates to senior leadership and the Investment Committee. Communicate weekly, quarterly, annual and multi-year investment portfolio valuation, performance, contribution and attribution analysis to the CIO, CEO and Investment Committee. This requires the ability to speak and write clearly and understandably the technical merits of complex investment instruments and strategies, and the ability to interact, present, and convince seasoned investment professionals.
5. Management functions include collaborating with the Sr. Director - Investment Administration for portfolio manager or allocation changes, as well as external and internal audits. Collaborate with the Finance Department regarding potential Investment Portfolio cash flows, investment income, and portfolio draws. Includes regular discussions on the long-term capital needs of ALSAC and SJCRH and the impact on the Investment Portfolio's asset allocation. Collaborates with the ALSAC Legal and Gift Planning department in portfolio liquidations acquired by donation or through bequests. Manages workflow with custodians and CGA administrator as needed. Interacts with ALSAC and St Jude staff on overseeing internal retirement plans. Review new statutory requirements as necessary. Performs job duties as assigned as part of ALSAC's Business Continuity Management Program, including annual maintenance and testing of business continuity, disaster recovery, and emergency response plans.
REQUIREMENTS:
Deep knowledge of financial theory particularly

mean-variance-optimization,

statistics, accounting, economics, and behavioral economics.

Financial modeling in Excel. Strong working knowledge of Bloomberg, Caissa, or other industry-standard software.

Ability to design and review Monte Carlo simulations stress testing, and other scenario-based analyses.

Knowledge of charitable gift annuities, retirement (401k, 403b) investing, and regulatory restrictions is a plus.

Requires excellent communication skills to convey complex topics understandably to internal/external audiences.

Master's degree preferred with professional certification, such as CFA or CAIA. - Bachelor's degree required.

At least 10 year's experience in the institutional investment industry. Experience in manager research and due diligence and asset allocation, including marketable alternative assets, preferred. Management experience is a plus.
