Floor Care Technician - Healthcare Facilities A Powerlink Floor Care Technician performs a wide variety of duties including cleaning and disinfecting Healthcare facilities, utilizing proper procedures, equipment, and cleaning chemicals to ensure a safe environment for all patients, visitors, and staff. Work is performed independently with little to general supervision. The incumbent could be assigned to any area throughout on any day during assigned shift due to business needs of the department. Floor surfaces - Protection and preservation of floor surfaces to maintain appropriate appearance and cleanliness. Mix cleaning solution in appropriate proportions and quantities following manufacturers' directions for washing floors, or shampooing carpets. Operate powered automatic cleaning equipment to remove excess moisture and old materials from floor, following standard operating and safety procedures. Dust, sweep, dry mop, wet mop floors using handheld squeegees, brooms, mops, auto scrubber, etc. Vacuum, shampoo, and deep clean carpets using various machines, detergents, and spot removers. Additional Floor care responsibilities in addition to general cleaning responsibilities of a technician, the floor care position will also be involved in the maintenance, upkeep, and restoration of all floor types within the organization. Follows the recommended floor care maintenance program for all floor types within the organization. Apply correct stripping, cleaning, neutralizing, sealing or wax solution to floor using handheld mop or mechanical operator. Buff floors to produce final finish using powered equipment. Performs duties including burnishing, stripping and waxing floors, buffing, steam cleaning, and other processes related to maintenance or restoration of all floor types. Documents completion of scheduled floor care maintenance. Functions independently or in teams to complete floor care projects as scheduled. Cleaning equipment - Maintenance of cleaning equipment and supplies to preserve and prepare it for future use. Clean mop, brooms, brushes, pads, rags, pails, etc. after use and store properly. Maintain powered cleaning equipment, lubricate automatic scrubbers, adjust and change pads, install or replace filter and check battery. Empty cleaning agents from machine and rinse out after use. Maintain adequate supplies in storage closet and request supplies, as needed, from the supervisor. Check electrical connections for safety. Report malfunction of powered equipment to supervisor to prevent injury to operator or further damage to equipment. Read labels on containers, work orders, basic safety rules, warning signs and special written procedures in hospital and laboratories. Notify supervisor of any equipment or facilities needing repair or replacement so corrective action can be taken. Communicate with other environmental services staff, patients, nurses, doctors and the public to answer questions and obtain information on work to be done. Complete daily work sheets to ensure completion of all work assignments and to provide the department a record of work completed. May be asked to assist with training new employees. Customer service responsibilities. Always interacts positively with all customers (patients, family and other staff). Utilizes patient calling cards. Meets and strives to exceed all customer needs, recognizing that everyone is our customer and promoting a positive image of the hospital and the Environmental Services Department. Responsible for reporting any concerns to Environmental Services Leadership. Pursues opportunities for improvement, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in assignments. Displays a "can do" attitude and is willing to help out where needed. Consistently models customer service which aligns with Powerlink's Performance Standards: integrity, innovation, compassion, accountability, respect, excellence, and diversity. Required Skills. Knowledge and Abilities Basic communication skills and working knowledge of the English language. Ability to work independently or with a team with little supervision. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals, short correspondence and memos. Ability to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee and external customer satisfaction. Effective organizational and planning abilities. Willingness to use initiative and handle extra duties as needed. Ability to multi-task and work at a rapid pace. Ability to teach basic skills and techniques to peers. Physical Requirements X Heavy: Ability to lift up to 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
