The Estimator III will be responsible for reviewing drawings for pipe, valves, and fittings takeoff using estimating software tools, quantifying and summarizing scheduled and miscellaneous equipment items in a clear, concise, and methodical way. Will be required to read specifications to identify piping material types, specific job requirements, and deviations from Bernhard standard practices. The estimator will take all of the information from PVF takeoff and equipment summaries then compile into an estimate summary. Critical thinking and technical writing skills will be necessary to draft proposals.
Specific responsibilities include:
Reviewing and evaluating requests for proposals Reviewing construction documents and understanding scope of work to bid Executing take-offs of construction documents Reviewing material takeoff for completeness and accuracy Inputting take-offs into computer spreadsheet Obtaining pricing for specialty materials Soliciting bids from subcontractors and vendors Compiling take-offs and equipment summaries into project estimate Scope reviews of subcontractor and vendor quotes Informing immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted item or computer database Drafting and finalizing proposals, bid forms, and cost breakouts Developing and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc. Attending departmental meetings as required Training and coaching of Takeoff Estimator peers Bid calendar coordination for takeoff purposes Review bid documents and specifications for project specific requirements This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and reports to Estimating Manager.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications 2-5 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and expertise Ability to read and interpret documents such as drawings, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals Experience with estimating techniques and cost control Ability to perform detailed labor and material take-offs Teamwork and communication skills Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Bluebeam Understanding of MCAA labor book Understanding of a variety of mechanical and plumbing systems and equipment Effective verbal and written communication skills Detail oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment Well versed in the industry and the Company's competitors Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of scope of work when necessary Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications Knowledge of Estimation Viewpoint and/or Trimble Autobid software is strongly encouraged Travel Requirements Infrequent travel to Company or client locations. Approximately 5-10% of time will be spent traveling. Physical/Work Environment Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times USD $66,100.00 - USD $88,300.00 /Hr.
