Job Summary: The Equity Specialist is responsible for oversight of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategies for Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City (Habitat KC). This position plays a key role in Habitat KC's Advancing Black Homeownership (ABH) initiative.
The ideal candidate will excel in achieving results and consensus through consulting and influencing our leadership and staff. In addition, the candidate will have a proven commitment to and experience with the principals and practices of racial equity. This position collaborates with local and regional leaders and managers and other interested parties to advance our diversity and equity initiatives that focus toward achieving equitable outcomes across our service area.General Responsibilities: 
Oversee DEI committee and act as liaison between DEI committee and Leadership.Collaborate with DEI committee and Leadership to develop and implement realistic and aspirational internal and external goals and metrics for Habitat KC's DEI strategy.Identify and deploy internal and external training and best practices that pertain to equity focused efforts across all departments.Assist with development and maintenance of strategic partnerships with community leaders.Support Habitat KC's Marketing Team with communications efforts for internal and external interested parties.Represent Habitat KC at outreach activities to drive public awareness to advocacy objectives.Strengthen community relationships by working alongside residents in Habitat KC's neighborhood revitalization areas.Monitor external social determinates, explore innovative strategies, and drive actions through community outreach that supports Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City's mission.Attend and actively participate in Advancing Black Homeownership's (ABH) Community of Practice (COP) meetings and events.Collaborate with DEI committee and Leadership to assess and modify internal policies and business practices that create unintended barriers and/or unintentionally inhibit racial equity.Develop innovative solutions to mitigate barriers for individuals to access Habitat services and homeownership.Other duties as assigned.   Preferred Qualifications, Education and Experience:Knowledge and commitment to social justice, racial and other forms of equity and systems level transformationA minimum of 2 years' experience in the field of nonprofit, public or community development sector with experience in house policy, homeownership, or consumer protection preferred.Experience with program/s focused on meeting the needs of people of color and diverse groups.Strong project management skills and able to manage multiple strands of work towards an overall objective.Superior oral and written communicationStrong relationship building and community engagement skills.Experience working with Microsoft Office and design software to assist with marketing creation.Active support of Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City's values:Humility - We are part of something bigger than ourselves.Courage - We do what's right, even when it is difficult or unpopular.Accountability - We take personal responsibility for Habitat's mission. Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform This Job: Outside meetings and presentations are frequently requiredSome evening and weekend meetings required.   The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Individual may need to sit or stand as needed. The position may require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. The individual may reach above shoulder heights or below the waist or lift as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques are required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Individual may be subject to intermittent moderate noise levels.
