Description
The Department for Public Health (DPH), Division of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) is looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about supporting children and their families. MCH oversees some of the state's widest reaching public health programs such as the Women Infant Children (WIC) Nutrition Program, Health Access Nurturing Development Services (HANDS), Kentucky Early Intervention Services (KEIS aka First Steps), Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (CLPPP), Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) Registry, Kentucky Birth Surveillance Registry (KBSR) and many more.


This position is in our Program Support Branch assisting with data collection, analysis, and report writing using epidemiologic methods for the division's programs to inform decisions that will improve processes and programs to be serve Kentucky's MCH population. DPH has the ability to be competitive in its pay structure.


This is a federally funded time-limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non- merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.


Key Responsibilities of the Position: Collects, describes and analyzes data using basic epidemiologic methods such as descriptive analysis related to maternal and child health or public health issues. Provides technical assistance on program monitoring, data collection, and evaluation including the production of useful evaluation reports, needs assessment and recommendations. Utilization of findings of analyses to improve, expand and maintain the program. Assists in the preparation of reports such as annual reports, fact sheets, surveillance reports, white papers, grant reporting, and program outputs plans. Organizes and maintains different data and surveillance systems including providing technical assistance to users as needed. Communicates and disseminates data to health professionals and agencies at the local, state and national levels. Preferred Qualifications and Skills: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to convey ideas to others effectively. Receptive to other's ideas and work constructively and effectively as part of a team. EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree in public health or environmental health or related field OR A bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least two courses in epidemiology, public health, research methods, epidemiological research methods, population health, or disease investigation, or other related courses AND one course in data analysis, statistics, biostatistics, public health programming, epidemiological programming, health analytics, demography, or other related courses.
