As we grow and strengthen our natural resources work, Prairie Engineers is adding a Sr. Scientist with a passion for Natural Resources to our team to lead and/or manage natural resources projects. You will have field and office experience performing natural resource studies and authoring National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Principles, Requirements and Guidelines (PR&G) compliant documentation for transportation and watershed planning as well as other projects. You should also have experience coordinating with a variety of clients and regulatory agencies, and experience leading multi-discipline project teams in performing natural resource investigations and conducting NEPA and PR&G analyses. Job Functions: Lead/manage NEPA and natural resources projects and personnel including mentorship of junior environmental staff and guiding staff through the NEPA process Prepare documents compliant with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Principles, Requirements, and Guidelines (PR&G) for Water and Land Related Resources guidelines, including Categorical Exclusions (CE), Environmental Assessments (EA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), and Watershed Plans Participate in public meetings and preparation of public involvement materials Develop and review scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFQ's Occasional travel required for fieldwork and public meetings Minimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Archaeology, or related field
Experience: 10+ years' experience in Environmental Planning
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge and experience with GIS programs, data sources, and resource impact analysis
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ideals: Professional, positive attitude with a strong work ethic
Teamwork: Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Responsive: Communicate openly, proactively, and promptly Preferred Qualifications: More Experience: 15+ years' experience in Environmental Planning
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated experience guiding a team through the NEPA process and author of at least two EA's or one EIS. Experience conducting waters of the U.S. delineations; experience conducting threatened and endangered species assessments; knowledge and experience in public involvement
Prequalification: Ability to be prequalified as an Environmental Lead with the Illinois Department of Transportation at the EIS level
