Location: Onsite in Luray, VA
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• As they relate to a specific business unit, leads in the development and coordination of company safety programs and standards to implement best practices and achieve and maintain compliance with applicable federal, state & local codes and regulations. Takes the lead on site OSHA visits/contact.
• Provide and/or coordinate site specific safety training/testing (e.g. incident investigation, new employee orientation, lockout/tagout, powered industrial trucks, ergonomics, safety inspections, job safety analysis, audiometric testing ,LOTO etc.) as necessary and/or directed by Corporate Safety or Plant Management in order to address hazards and comply with relevant standards.
• Work with site manufacturing engineering to conduct safety assessments of new or modified equipment/processes in accordance with the company Safety Assessment Procedure. Participates with engineering in problem solving/resolution exercises.
• Create/customize detailed safety programs/procedures to meet site specific environment as needed and ensures availability of PPE.
• Conducts ergonomic assessments to identify risk factors and work with engineering to implement control measures to address identified ergonomic risk factors.
• Supports location assessments (e.g. audits, inspections, accident investigations, etc.); with site management and recommends & assists in the execution of corrective actions. Trains auditors as needed.
• Coordinate annual safety strategy development and tracking at the site level. Evaluate safety related data and conduct loss analysis to guide strategic direction/focus areas. Coordinate with business unit in safety goals setting process to include leading and lagging indicators.
• Works with Disability Management and site Supervision in regard to administration of workers compensation and return to work processes.
• Leads cross functional teams and plant safety committee.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
• Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering or related discipline or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Masters degree preferred.
• A minimum of 2 years of safety-related experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of government regulations concerning health, safety & the environment Knowledge of relevant equipment safety standards and hazard control measures.
• Strong interpersonal/communication (verbal and written) skills.
• Demonstrated customer-orientation and collaborative approach.
• Demonstrated ability to impact change through influence and coaching.
