­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Announcement # 2024-118 Engineering Technician I Engineering Department of Natural Resources Hourly Wage: $21.11/Regular/Full-Time The incumbent supports the Engineering Program staff in completing a variety of planning, design, surveying, maintenance, and construction-related tasks. Follows standard work methods on recurring assignments but receives explicit instructions on unfamiliar assignments. Technical adequacy of routine work is reviewed upon completion, non-routine work may be reviewed in progress.
Examples of Work Performed: Perform general civil engineering maintenance activities in accordance with training and the specified procedures such as: In-person field reviews to evaluate roads, stripping, signs and guardrail conditions for maintenance and repair. Maintenance of ditches and culverts for proper water flow; including catch basins. Maintenance of roadway rights-or-way, such as assisting in hand/chemical weeding and tree and brush removal. Maintenance of water metering devices. Perform water measurements at well or instream locations.
Effectively work with various Yakama Nation departments, Wapato Irrigation Project staff, and contractors and/or consultants.
Assists in the collection and compilation of data for Engineering studies and inventory databases.
Develop basic knowledge to create, read, and interpret drawings, and maps, the calculation of and verification of quantities, cost estimates and progress payments.
Serves as a crew member on projects.
Develop basic knowledge in the inspection of project sites to ensure quality and compliance with design specifications and write reports.
Develop knowledge of reviewing contractor submittals and drafting correspondence letters.
Assist with the organization and management of records for the project, i.e., progress, notes, drawings, etc.
Attend project meetings with Engineering staff, consultants and/or contractors.
Assist in surveying utilizing GPS equipment.
Maintains labor, vehicle and equipment use records.
Organizes, maintains, and cleans vehicles, equipment, tools, and supplies.
Document daily work and compile monthly reports.
Follows safety rules and practices and other safety requirements for all projects.
Other duties as assigned if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of safe and efficient construction practices.
Must possess technology skills in the operation and use of computers, including hardware and software to support the Engineering program (CAD, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook), data management, smart phones, digital cameras and other electronic equipment as needed.
Skill in basic carpentry.
Skill in operating equipment, hand tools, small power tools and forklifts.
Ability to speak and write clearly, to exchange, convey and receive information.
Ability to learn and understand mathematical computations to determine slope, elevation, volume, flow, construction layout, and other engineer/surveying related solutions.
Ability to learn how to read and interpret engineering plans, schematics, maps, and surveying records.
Ability to work independently and efficiently, with little or no supervision on tasks as assigned.
Ability to successfully complete technical trainings and obtain certifications to enhance the Engineering program.
Ability to perform tasks indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, requires the ability to sit, stand, crouch, climb and walk on uneven ground, perform tasks that require physical abilities of a laborer, occasionally lift/move items up to 75 pounds.
Ability to maintain excellent time and attendance to meet program goals and objectives and meet scheduled deadlines.
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent.
Relevant experience or training, advanced mathematics, basic engineering design or construction theory.
Must possess and maintain Traffic Control Flagger certification or have the ability to obtain the certification within 6 months of employment.
Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.
Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Nation Driving Permit.
Enrolled Yakama Preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
