Job Description and Duties This position offers an exciting and rewarding opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary team that provides data management and modeling support for DWR's Division of Integrated Science and Engineering (DISE). The incumbent will be the primary modeler for the Data Management and Modeling team and is responsible for developing and applying computer simulation models (e.g. DSM2, HEC-RAS, DAYFLOW, SCHISM) in support of scientific studies, facilities operations, regulatory compliance, and restoration planning. Modeling tasks include creation of model geometry, data collection and processing, model calibration and validation, review of models developed by others, and model documentation. The incumbent will also provide data visualization and database management support, develop computer programs and scripts for data analysis and processing, utilize ArcGIS tools, and investigate data relationships using statistical and machine learning techniques. Incumbent must be able to use desktop and laptop computers for long periods of time and display reasonable aptitude with computer programming and a willingness to learn programming using Python and R.
In order to participate in occasional field activities, incumbent must be able to: 1) swim 50 yards; 2) stay afloat for 5 minutes; 3) function without incapacitation due to sea sickness; 4) move and transport objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and 5) able to promptly install and wear standard flotation gear when necessary. Must possess a valid California driver's license to travel to various site locations.

Strong written and oral communication skills; extensive experience with modeling and computer programming; working knowledge of Python and R; proficiency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology, water quality, and environmental regulations; ability to work independently and co-operatively with others; and detail oriented.
