Details of the offer

General Dynamics Electric Boat, a leader in naval innovation, is seeking passionate engineers to contribute to the design, construction and maintenance of state-of-the-art submarines for the U.S. Navy. Be part of a dynamic team, drive technological advancements, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of maritime defense. If you're ready for a challenging and rewarding career, apply now to be at the forefront of naval engineering excellence. D471 is seeking highly motivated candidates to support structural engineering efforts on commissioned submarines and training platforms. D471 Structural Engineering primarily supports the Reactor Plant Planning Yard (RPPY), Moored Training Ship Support Yard (MTSSY), S8G Prototype Design Agent (S8G PDA), and S6G Moored Training Ship Lead Design Yard (S6G MTS LDY) programs and consists of 13 engineers working in a team environment.

Engineers in D471 Structural Engineering evaluate and resolve technical requests from the submarine fleet or shipyards, incorporate new designs and advanced technologies via Ship Alteration, perform research studies, complete calculations, and propose improvements to Naval Reactors. Engineers also function as project engineers, overseeing all aspects of engineering tasks, including assurance of first-time technical quality, maintaining budgets and schedules, and interfacing with design services and other engineering organizations. Engineers will also directly interface with internal and external customers, including NAVSEA 08, naval shipyards, Nuclear Power Training Unit at Charleston, SC and the Naval Nuclear Laboratory.
The successful candidate will be onboarded to gain familiarity with the group's areas of cognizance, trained on necessary processes/procedures and analysis software, and continuously supported with regular development meetings to ensure skill and career progression. Technical expertise and knowledge of propulsion plant systems, welding, fasteners, materials, and general methods of manufacturing will be developed by frequently using these skills while performing technical evaluations.
Electric Boat offers Flexible Work Arrangements that allows some work to be performed remotely and at home. This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables. Please ask for more details on how it applies to this opening during discussions with the department. Required: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Materials, or Structural Engineering, or equivalent technical degree.  Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of Operations (Casciano/Gabriel). Preferred: Experience in the S6G MTS, COLUMBIA, VIRGINIA, or Planning Yard & Life Cycle Programs. Experience with the Naval Nuclear Work Model. Experience finite element analysis. Experience working with NAVSEA approved specifications, standards, and manuals, such as GRPORS, MTSGOS, or Tech Pub 1688. Strong writer and reviewer of technical correspondence. Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills to interface with internal and external customers. Strong organizational and project management skills to execute large, multi-disciplinary projects effectively. Highly motivated engineer, with a commitment to continuous improvement. Effective mentor and capable technical leader. Capable of resolving complex engineering problems successfully in a dynamic environment with minimal supervision.
