Who We Are:

The Materials Science and Failure Analysis Section develops solutions for complex materials problems using experimental and analytical methods. We serve government and commercial sponsors across a variety of technical sectors.
Objectives of this Role:

Provide laboratory support for research projects involving materials synthesis, optimization, and failure analysis.
Use a variety of chemical/physical processes for materials synthesis and bench top characterization techniques to evaluate material systems.
Provide data analysis and present results from project tasks in person and in writing to a multidisciplinary project team.
Assist in, or lead, the design and assembly of laboratory apparatuses, including electronic, thermal, and mechanical controls.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

With guidance from senior staff, perform analytical and experimental work in materials science and chemistry laboratory spaces.
As necessary, perform troubleshooting on experimental methods and data acquisition instruments.
Analyze and summarize collected data utilizing multiple post processing tools and report data to project team.
Support or lead the design and assembly of specialized laboratory apparatuses.
Coordinate with other operating groups to fulfill project needs.
Requirements:

Requires a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering.
0-3 years: Hands-on experience operating laboratory analytical instruments, preferably related to chemistry or materials characterization.
0-3 years: Must possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently and effectively communicate complex information.
0-2 years: Hands on experience with LabVIEW or similar control engineering software, programming languages (Fortran, Python, etc.) is desired.
0-2 years: Hands on experience in the design and assembly of laboratory apparatuses. Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., Solid Works), processes flow diagraming, electrical and mechanical control systems is desired.
A valid/clear driver's license is required.
