EB @ Norfolk Naval Shipyard Overview Electric Boat Corporation (EB) is seeking a well versed and experienced Engineer as the on-site representative for Life Cycle Support (LCS) at Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) in Portsmouth, VA . This person will report to the Availability Support Group (ASG) within Planning Yard Fleet Support Engineering, Department 495. This engineer will serve in a full time position supporting U.S. Navy commissioned VIRGINIA Class submarines during the planning, execution, and certification of fleet maintenance and Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) maintenance availability work.
The ASG Engineer will be primarily responsible for supporting NNSY on-site in Portsmouth, VA, as an LCS liaison to coordinate efforts between NNSY and the EB VIRGINIA Class Planning Yard (VAPY). This position is a full-time on-site position. Work from home is available on certain occasions but is generally dissuaded.
The individual selected for this position will be responsible for:
Providing onsite technical support responding to NNSY inquiries regarding drawings, ship specifications, material requirements, and modernization guidance. Routinely visiting VIRGINIA Class submarines during maintenance availabilities at NNSY and meeting with shipyard project personnel about technical or material needs. Providing material acquisition support to NNSY and coordinate with EB material departments. Attending NNSY project meetings and address actions as needed. Planning and coordinating with EBs Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for on-site and remote support during maintenance availabilities, acting as the liaison between NNSY and SMEs. Assisting with Liaison Action Record (LAR) requests from NNSY. Coordinating badging and access requests for EB personnel to visit NNSY. Supporting occasional evening and weekend work to support emergent shipyard needs. Success in this environment requires that every task be accomplished with a collaborative, hands-on, proactive, deadline-driven, technically rigorous approach. Special Emphasis Programs (SEP) and Limited Radiation Worker qualifications may be required for certain tasks.
Responsibilities Must be able to professionally represent EB when interacting with US Navy personnel and industry partners with integrity and commitment to excellence Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical manuals/information Must be highly motivated and be able to interact easily with others Must be able to function both independently and within a team environment, and be able to facilitate internal and external team meetings with self-sufficiency Must have strong written and verbal communication skills Must be willing and physically able to climb steep stairs and ladders, ascend/descend scaffolding, and access confined spaces within a submarine Flexibility to perform duties that may be assigned outside of routine activities Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Demonstrated ability in multi-tasking and technical project management Qualifications Required: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (i.e., marine, mechanical, structural, civil, aerospace, or electrical) Active DoD Secret Security Clearance or ability to be granted and maintain such clearance 3 years of experience working in areas of US Navy submarine construction, overhaul/repair, and/or operations Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of Operations (Casciano/Gabriel). Preferred: Masters Degree in Systems Engineering or other engineering disciplines noted above Prior experience in a supervisory role, team lead, or project management. 7 years of experience in US Navy submarine construction, overhaul/repair, and/or operations Knowledge of VIRGINIA Class design products, processes, and shipboard systems Understanding of VIRGINIA Class Construction, Maintenance, and configuration management Understanding of submarine maintenance and logistics products (i.e., eLARs, eDFSs, ShipAlts) Experience with Technical Instruction development and oversight Familiarity with Availability Work Packages (AWPs), Task Group Instructions (TGIs), material procurement and certification process and procedures In-depth knowledge of special emphasis programs (i.e, SUBSAFE, DSS-SOC, FBW) Proficiency interacting with NAVSEA, US Navy officers, and/or government stakeholders Proficient with JCALS, MRP II, ELCADD, CITIS, and/or ATIS applications PI********
