Emergency Services Therapist - Fredericksburg Job Description  Assesses the general psychological and medical status of individuals referred to the agency for services and determines and arranges for appropriate treatment providers or personally provides direct therapeutic treatment on an emergency basis.
Job Duties and Responsibilities  Assesses individuals for hospitalization, completes pre-screenings, evaluates and determines appropriateness for hospitalization. Coordinates law enforcement, judicial and medical treatment for hospital commitments. Arranges hospital admissions on a voluntary and involuntary basis and follows up with hospital staff.  Provides crisis intervention to referrals to the program at the individual's home, clinic or in the emergency facility. Coordinates alcohol/drug placements.  Provides direct individual service including emergency intakes, individual evaluation, individual and family therapy.  Classifies and refers new individuals to the appropriate agency treatment unit.  Coordinates services and is liaison with other agencies: Hospitals, courts, social services, state offices, and others in the communities. Makes assessments by telephone or by in-person interviews. Responds to program callers and phone inquiries. Required Qualifications  Master's Degree in the Behavioral Sciences and considerable therapeutic counseling Experience including crisis intervention and hospitalization of substance abusive, mentally and/or emotionally disabled individuals; or combination of education and experience to produce the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  State certification as a Qualified Pre-screener.  Valid state driver's license.  MA/MS, LPC or LCSW licensed eligible. Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques involved in the diagnosis and general treatment of the substance abusive, mentally and/or emotionally disabled population. Thorough knowledge of individual management guidelines for Virginia.  Thorough knowledge of the laws and legal procedures relating to involuntary hospital admission.  Thorough knowledge of the treatment providers and admission procedures for the region served.  Ability to establish and maintain rapport with the individual population. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and with private and public agency personnel. Ability to function calmly in stressful situations.  Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to maintain individual records. Preferred Qualifications  LPC or LCSW preferred.  Prefer applicant to reside in RACSB service area. Physical Demands Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Incumbent performs work in office environment.  Work requires visits to individuals' homes of varying sanitary and health conditions.  Therapist may be exposed to dangerous individuals in the course of crisis intervention.  Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.  Some walking, moving, carrying, climbing, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and handling, sitting, standing, pushing and pulling. Shift Type/Hours Worked This applicant will work from a rotating schedule either 8a-5p, 9a-6p or 10a-7p including some weekends and holidays
