POSITION SUMMARY: HIAS seeks an Emergency & Humanitarian Programs Intern to assist the Emergency Department in a variety of initiatives. This position will join the Emergency Department and contribute to ongoing emergency response operations, as well as building emergency capacity across HIAS. Reporting to the Programs Specialist, Emergency & Humanitarian Programs, they will support the department's programs and operations by facilitating cross-divisional communication, partnering on MEAL in emergency documents, supporting HIAS' learning and capacity-building agenda, assisting in drafting and collaborating on emergency policies and SOPs, and taking on other duties to support the Emergency Department team and field staff as needed.
Note, this position is unpaid, but may be pursued for academic credit. We ask that applicants be available for 10-15 hours/week for 10-12 weeks beginning in August 2023. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Partners with the Strategy and Measurement (SAM) teamto draft assessment documents.
Coordinates with SAM to strengthen the monitoring, evaluation, humanitarian accountability, and learning capacities of HIAS in emergency contexts.
Coordinates with HIAS HQ and Country Office staff to inventory existing policy and SOP documents.
Oversees the addition of emergency processes in existing policies and SOP's.
Manages capacity building trainings?for HQ departments and Country Office staff.
Develops an emergency capacity building and training element of the Emergency Department.
Supports with the roster maintenance and analysis.
Prepares emergency contexts analysis and supports with information management.
Assists with drafting emergency alerts when an emergency occurs.
Coordinates with Country Offices and the Emergency Department to collect relevant data.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field required.
English fluency required; Spanish fluency a plus.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Highly organized and detail-oriented; ability to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Willingness to occasionally work outside of business hours if/when emergency programming is being activated and tight deadlines are required.
Strong integrity and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
