JOB TITLE: Elizabethton High School Athletic Director
SUPERVISOR: EHS Building Principal
OVERVIEW: Elizabethton City Schools is looking for an Athletic Director for Elizabethton High School. Under the direction of the building principal the athletic director is responsible for organizing sports functions, recommending candidates for coaching, mentoring coaches, overseeing sports facilities, and managing all aspects of EHS sports. An energetic and detail-oriented individual with good leadership and communication skills is necessary.
The Athletic Director must have a valid Tennessee teaching license and should have coaching experience. An administrative degree is preferred, but not necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reserving fields and scheduling and overseeing sports functions. Working with the transportation supervisor to ensure transportation logistics are coordinated and provided. Recommending applicants to HR for coaching positions. Mentoring coaches and managing all aspects of athletics. Maintaining and overseeing athletic fields and facilities. Approving athletic purchases and ensuring equipment is maintained properly. Building community relations and handling media inquiries. Developing and implementing processes and procedures for the athletics department to ensure the school, the coaches, and athletes remain compliant with athletic rules and regulations. Managing the athletic department budget. Other duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Hire coaches. Require pre­season and post­season meetings with coaches. Assure that coaches and players adhere to the student code of conduct. and site athletic by­laws. Verify that all athletes are medically cleared, meet guidelines for participation, have completed and returned any/all paperwork and verify that all athletes are academically eligible to compete. Work with coaches to schedule practices, use of facilities, and all competition in a timely manner. Serve as game administrator and work with the principal to provide administration and supervision at all competitions. Oversee and coordinate with coaches, award ceremonies and facilitate college signing ceremonies. Oversee and create a committee to accept nominations for Hall of Fame candidates and the process for selecting candidates applying guidelines in a fair and consistent manner. Purchase all equipment and uniforms. Provide adequate practice and playing facilities. Respond to all parent concerns and calls. Respond to all staff concerns and E­ mail messages. Be the District Advisor to the Booster club. Be a support network for present and future Cyclone youth sports. Troubleshoot the day-to-day operation of a high school athletic program. Ensure that each varsity coach maintain an accurate inventory of equipment and materials, and file such an inventory with the principal at the conclusion of each season. Responsible for the development of a schedule of varsity and junior varsity and freshman events, and in the absence of the coach prepares a schedule. Responsible for securing officials for all home events, and assists in the coordination of transportation for all away events. Responsible for the orientation of all coaches regarding site and district policies, procedures and expectations; and ensures that all coaches comply with TSSAA rules and procedures. Works closely with the coaches and the school nurse to schedule athletic physicals and processes necessary forms. Works closely with the staff and site administration to develop and enforce an athletic/academic code of conduct which is consistent with the goals of the staff, administration, and the district. Responsible for development and oversight of Athletic Department budget. Coordinate the scheduling of athletic events in accordance with TSSAA regulations. Assist in the requisitioning and issuing of athletic equipment. Assist in maintaining an inventory of all athletic equipment. Assist in the responsibility for the care of athletic facilities. Require all volunteer coaching applicants report to the central office for processing (onboarding - finger printing and background check) Ensure no newly-hired coach works with student athletes prior to completing all aspects of onboarding. Make coaches aware of their start date upon receipt of an employment status notice. Adhere to Tennessee Code, School Board Policies, ECS Procedures, the EHS Handbook, and the code of conduct. Abide by professional ethics standards established by Board Policy. Maintain punctuality for all prescribed functions. Assume the responsibility for the safety and welfare of students whenever a danger is observed on or about the campus. Participate cooperatively in the development of the school budget.
