Special Education Resource Teacher – Elementary James Irwin Charter Elementary School, Howard Campus ******** School Year Approximate Start Date: July 25, 20224 Job Summary: As the special education teacher, you will support and inspire students with disabilities to master academic skills, social skills, behavioral management, and emotional regulation to prepare for college and career readiness. You will implement inclusive education strategies in classrooms with typically developing peers to help students achieve their maximum potential. You will further the development of intervention programs for individual or small group instruction to close academic gaps. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work with other professionals to accommodate existing curriculum on core subjects to meet each student's specific needs.

Required Qualifications: Meets subject, grade level, and/or content area qualifications consistent with Colorado Department of Education and James Irwin Charter School requirements - Special Services Provider License: Initial - Colorado Department of Education, Special Services Provider License: Professional - Colorado Department of Education
Candidates who are eligible for Temporary Educator Eligibility (TEE) are welcome to apply: JICS will provide an entry level experience and further professional development for teachers who are working toward licensure and have been accepted into a CDE approved special education program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provides positive environment with engaging instructional content. Instructs assigned classes in locations and times designated. Creates relevant plans that meet the individual needs, interests and abilities. Supports teachers and staff with accommodations in inclusive classrooms. Maintains data collection, updates records and documentation. Develops IEPs, BIPs and supports the MTSS process. Administers assessments and progress monitoring. Maintains compliance with confidentiality laws including Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. Completes plans and assessments required by law and State rules and regulations. Facilitates meetings within required timelines. Assists students with problem solving techniques and conflict resolution. Implements JICS policies regarding behaviors and discipline with support from administrative staff. Collaborates with building staff, educators, administrators, parents and outside agencies regarding effective strategies for facilitating learning and resolving behavioral matters. Communicates clearly in verbal and written formats with students, parents and coworkers. Possesses knowledge of Direct Instruction methodology. Participates in professional development/training sessions and team meetings. Qualifications: BA/BS from accredited college or university. Valid Colorado teaching license endorsed in area of assignment: 5-21 Special Education Generalist or Specialist. Passing scores for PRAXIS Elementary Education (Exam #5001 or #5018 only) JICS will consider candidates who do not hold this endorsement but have been accepted into a CDE approved program that will allow eligibility for a CO teaching license or added endorsement in Special Education upon completion of the program. This candidate will be required to attain a Temporary Educator Eligibility (TEE) to begin working as the special education teacher. To apply, evidence of your program acceptance letter that states you are in a CDE approved program for Special Education Generalist and evidence that the college/university is willing to sign off on all TEE paperwork is required. Hours per Day: 8 hours

*Staff is assigned based on case load to James Irwin Charter Schools on the same campus to maximize student learning and access to the curriculum.
