Job Summary: This is an exciting opportunity to participate in a registered apprenticeship program leading to journeyworker status as an Electrician. The Electrician Apprentice position will involve learning and applying a full range of electrical skills. This position works on a team of highly skilled journeyworkers providing critical support to research and educational functions on campus. The apprentice program is typically five years of progressive work experience coupled with classroom education. This is a registered apprenticeship program recognized by the State of Wisconsin.

Responsibilities: Under the general supervision of a person who holds a license as a licensed Master Electrician or a registration as a Registered Master Electrician, the electrician apprentice will assist with the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring, equipment, and life safety and electrical control systems to ensure adequate, safe, and operable institutional facilities. 5% Trains to interpret blueprints and drawings and completes electrical calculations to assess and determine specifications and to calculate the materials and equipment required 15% Gather materials, prepares work area, and maintains equipment and supplies needed for job as instructed to do so by Supervisor and or lead 10% Trains to identify, analyze, troubleshoot, and assist with repairs of equipment and electrical faults according to established trade standards and applicable building and safety codes 5% Updates work logs and performs other administrative duties 5% Orders replacement parts and equipment as instructed to do so by Supervisor and or lead 15% Trains to complete electrical installations and carry out various maintenance duties 5% Under the supervision of Supervisor or lead, collaborates with and assists construction workers, trades and other team members 20% Learn from the master electrician and complete all assigned duties as instructed to do so by Supervisor and or lead 20% Completion of a registered apprenticeship program training requirements Institutional Statement on Diversity: Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. Education: Required
H.S. Diploma and pass NJATC Apprenticeship Aptitude Battery Test

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will demonstrate an eagerness to learn and the ability to troubleshoot and explore alternative solutions. They should also excel in team environments.
Testing: Applicants must call Candy at WRTP BIG STEP to sign up to take the Accuplacer test by June 3rd and obtain passing scores.
Passing Scores:
ACT: 15 in Math and 15 in Reading
Accuplacer Classic: 56 in Arithmetic and 66 in Reading
Accuplacer Next Gen: 237 in Arithmetic and 239 in Reading
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):
- Understanding of safety principles
- Prior exposure to building trades
- Basic knowledge of tools, materials and procedures used in general facilities maintenance
License/Certification: Required
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday from 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Work Type: Full Time: 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.
