Responsible for managing the efforts and effectiveness of the environmental, health and safety initiative for sites in Savannah, GA; Kinston, NC; Spartanburg, SC. The incumbent will be based in SC or NC and provide hands-on support for all sites based on resource needs, training and/or project or issue specific demands for corporate level expertise (travel up to 30% annually will be required). Ensure noncompliance findings are addressed and corrected where appropriate. Effectively communicate the environmental, health and safety goals, objectives, performance expectations, and metrics. Provide regulatory guidance for all environmental, health and safety media to manufacturing facilities and ensure compliance systems are adequate to track and document compliance status. Actively monitor and assess factory environmental, health and safety compliance and performance. Prepare strategic and tactical environmental, health and safety plans for sites and businesses that align with company objectives. Mentor, train, and develop health and safety employees. Develop and implement management systems to ensure seamless leadership for health and safety activities. Represent the company to state and federal agencies for health and safety issues, projects, and other issues as required.
Role and Responsibilities:
Develop and execute strategies to assure effective and sustainable EHS systems, programs and processes for the site.
Lead the site EHS function to ensure compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) regulations and all corporate and site specific departmental policies and procedures, EHS management system and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Monitor the EHS compliance calendar to ensure that regulatory, corporate and other commitments are being fulfilled on a timely manner (EHS metrics, audits, inspections, risk assessments, DMRs, onboarding of new employees, on-going EHS training programs of all employees).
Develop and maintain strategies and initiatives that are in line with site culture. You also develop, implement and enforce incident prevention and regulatory compliance policies and procedures as required by site specific needs, regulations and corporate requirements.
Assist in the recognition, evaluation and control of hazards (ergonomics, ventilation, noise, light, indoor air quality); Assists in coordinating industrial hygiene monitoring activities such as noise and air quality.
Interact with Facilities on a wide variety of projects including pollution prevention and control equipment; hazard elimination and mitigation; contractor safety; emergency and natural disaster preparedness programs and planning.
Drive the investigation of incidents, near misses and property damage incidents. Ensure follow-up is done to minimize future exposure and that proper communication and documentation is provided.
Conduct required monthly as well as new hire environmental, health and safety training.
Drive continuous improvement of safety trends/metrics through data analysis.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field is ideal; will also consider High School diploma (or equivalent) with 7+ years' experience in the health and safety field with a CSP (or equivalent) certification 5+ years' experience in the health and safety field. Prefer 5+ years' as a Leader/Manager in an industrial environment
CSP designation
OSHA fluency required.
Prefer experience in Behavioral Based Safety programs
Expert experience developing, implementing, and coaching health and safety management systems; experience working directly with operations management and safety professionals with risk assessment, incident investigation, self-assessment, audit, behavior/culture programs, etc.
Must be willing and able to travel up to 30% (domestic)
