Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) has an opening for a Facilities Manager to oversee the operation of our facilities which encompasses space in 10 buildings. Reporting to the ECE Department Administrator, you will play a significant role in creating a safe, efficient, and effective environment for our diverse community. Construction and Renovations
Plan and coordinate construction and renovation projects for a large and diverse group of facilities and space; Serve as liaison with UM architects from AEC and with general contractors from Plant; Attend planning meetings and ensure customers' needs and safety requirements are met, communicating regular status updates to constituents; Review documents and blueprints for accuracy and code compliance; Obtain OPCs and quotes; Plan and schedule departmental moves; Make recommendations to department administration. Infrastructure Repairs and Maintenance
Oversee the operations of a large and diverse group of facilities from non-laboratory buildings/space to various experimental laboratories (laser, nano, biological, animal use, high and alternative power, hydrogen, design, etc.); Coordinate maintenance and seek appropriate corrective action on building repairs of 10 buildings and oversee approximately 310,000 gross. sq. ft; Resolve department and building space inquires, problems, and complaints; Work with maintenance mechanics and Regional Asset Manager on current building problems; Coordinate with the College of Engineering Facilities Office to identify upgrades and maintenance issues for college owned space; Work with appropriate personnel to maintain and update instructional laboratories. Safety
Serve as liaison with EHS, recommend policies and procedures to ensure that department is in compliance with established occupational safety requirements; Facilitates tests and drills, and work with Fire Marshall on compliance issues; Serve as Head floor marshall and coordinate department floor marshalls; Coordinate safety training for roof access; Provide safety training to GSIs, IAs, and undergraduate students; Work with DPS and DHS on disaster, infrastructure, and safety issues; Serve as on-call building manager for on call issues with the building, first to be contacted by DPS on any issue after hours to evaluate building emergency matters such as floods, fires, alarms, etc.; Serve as a support member of the LNF ERT (Emergency Response Team) and maintain successful completion of Hazardous Response Training. General Management
Participate in overseeing facilities/construction budgets as well as prepare and provide periodic reports on facilities usage and costs; Maintain department equipment and space inventories; Update floor plans including designing room/office layouts, assist as necessary on lab layouts, and update building plans to reflect alterations using a CAD program; Track space allocation; Approve key requests and maintain C-Cure Building Access; Work with key office on security and lock changes; Oversee facilities for department, college and university events; Review and purchase supplies and tools as needed for upkeep of facilities; Obtain quotes and purchase furniture for renovations projects and new faculty/staff hires, working within budgets; Support faculty and their various facility, room and building needs. Other duties as assigned. Personnel
Supervises facilities staff; Interview, select, train and evaluate facilities staff including regular, temporary and work study students. Committee Work
Represent the ECE department to other units, including the CoE Facilities Management Office, Plant Operations and Extension, AEC, outside agencies and vendors, etc. Serves as the department representative on various university and College of Engineering committees.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible experience in facilities management Excellent organization and technical skills, including ability to organize complex operations, interpret technical plans, and relay updates respectfully and timely Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively work with a large and diverse population of faculty, students, staff, and visitors Demonstrated ability to work under pressure of deadlines and competing priorities High degree of accuracy and attention to details   Knowledge of electrical, mechanical and plumbing as it relates to renovation and construction Knowledge of U-M and CoE policies and procedures Familiarity with Plant Department, Building Services, and EHS policies and procedures  Demonstrated experience in the use of M-Pathways Space Management, Asset Management, and Business Objects Demonstrated experience with CAD or similar software Welcome to Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) People Powering Innovation We have been contributing to the science and technology of electrical and computer engineering since 1895.
