Union Power Cooperative has an immediate opening for a Distribution System Operator who will manage all aspects of distribution system control and switching for routine and emergency conditions, manage outage crew assignments, assist in regular and after-hours customer service activities, and monitoring of both the distribution system and the security system while continuously remaining focused on the Cooperative's Mission and Vision Statements, and the promotion of the Cooperative's Guiding Values.
Essential Duties of the Position Utilizes the Cooperative's Outage Management System (OMS) to evaluate and prioritize outage management, hazard conditions, and unusual system activity. Utilization of other systems includes IVR, GIS, AMI, SCADA. Assigns personnel and equipment to outages and hazard conditions. Documents and communicates outages, abnormal conditions and hazard conditions to Operations personnel, contractors and other stakeholders in the System Operations Center. Provides outage and hazard data to various individuals at the Cooperative, including executive leadership. Serves as main point of contact for employee Mayday or hazard situations. Maintains multiple event logs, including error logs, security events and after-hours visitor logs. Performs after hours customer service functions, including telephone contact with end consumers. Assigns service orders to Operations personnel. Coordinates switching operations. Utilizes fault data to speed outage restoration. Documents and reports system irregularities to the appropriate personnel. Conducts outage data analysis and assigns follow-up tasks to other groups when appropriate. Responsible for monitoring security system and reporting abnormal or suspicious activity. Perform all other duties assigned by supervision. Work Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Five years' work experience required. Associates degree in a related field with a preference in electrical technology preferred. This job requires availability for weekend work and some irregular hours based on major storm restoration. The Distribution System Operators ensure 24x7 coverage of the System Operations Center. Ability to read and interpret documents of a technical nature such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine service orders and log reports; speak effectively and present information orally to customers and/or employees of organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates and percentages. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. High level of computer competency. Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Ability to work without direct supervision required. Ability to read and interpret both digital and paper maps. Knowledge of system geography required. Must be able to effectively multi-task and communicate effectively using a variety of mediums including telephone, two-way radio, and email. Attendance of training seminars and some overnight travel may be required. Working Conditions:
General office environment; may require flexibility to work irregular hours during emergency restorations; may require occasional out of town travel to schools, seminars or conferences.
