Job Description SummaryThe Distinguished Staff Engineer – Aeroacoustics Advanced Methods leads the development, validation, application and documentation of advanced engineering processes and tools for the aerodynamics and acoustics disciplines. The role is aimed at proving methodology validation and technical feasibility by the application of rigorous scientific and engineering processes, with the objective of implementing the methodology into product analyses and hardware designs. The role also owns/influences budgets and operating plans and is guided by operating policy. The role works with cross functional teams and has autonomy within the Aerodynamics business unit. High levels of evaluative judgment and operational acumen are required to achieve outcomes.Job DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesPerform conceptual, theoretical, and practical activities related to aerodynamics and acoustics, particularly as these activities relate to gas turbine engine analysis and design.Perform conceptual, theoretical, and practical activities related to computational fluid dynamics, computational aero-acoustics, and machine learning, particularly as these activities relate to gas turbine engine analysis and design.Extend activities to aid global design engineering teams in the design, testing, and life-extension processes for gas turbine engines.Interpret internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes, or services.Lead cross-functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity.Lead others, both within and external to the business, to find creative solutions using complex design and analysis processes with technical variety and/or interdependent cycles.Employ sophisticated operational/product management or engineering techniques.Ensure delivery within area of responsibility, linking with other parts of the organization.Lead strategy for the development, validation, and execution of advanced methods for aerodynamics and acoustic disciplines.Influence business high-performance computing hardware strategy and policy.Utilize understanding of industry trends to inform decision making processes.Develop talent and expertise in aerodynamic and acoustic methods by providing professional or thought leadership.Interact with adjacent global disciplines in software development, aeromechanics, dynamics, combustion, and mechanical design to solve issues. Collaboratively evaluate quality of information received and question conflicting data for analysis.Employ multiple internal and external resources outside of own function to help arrive at decisions.Influence peers to act and negotiate with external partners, vendors, or customers.Present business or technical discipline solutions to senior leaders and engine systems owners.Communicate complex messages and negotiate mainly internally with others to adopt a different point of view.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college.Minimum 20+ years of professional experience in aerodynamics, acoustics, computational fluid dynamics, and/or machine learning disciplinesDesired CharacteristicsDoctoral degree from an accredited university or college.Demonstrated expertise in aerodynamics, acoustics, computational fluid dynamics, and/or machine learning.Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams in complex organizations.Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop technical talent.Demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external partners and customers.Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve complicate scientific problems.Demonstrated ability to execute complex programs / projects.Established project management skills.Ability to document, plan, market, and execute ideas and programs.Strong oral and written communication skills.Strong interpersonal skills.This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
