Posting Identification Number 37245 Position Overview The Bureau of Disability Determination Services (BDDS) is seeking to hire a detail-oriented Disability Claims Adjudicator II to p erform comprehensive reviews of assigned intake cases. The Disability Claims Adjudicator II documents and adjudicates claims that have been denied a period of disability at the initial level and that have a request for reconsideration that was filed timely. This position will access Continuing Disability Review (CDR) claims to determine if disability continues, reviews past decisions upon receipt to determine if claimant's impairment meets the medical improvement review standard established by the Social Security Reform Act of 1984, checks for entitlement to extended periods of eligibility or clear-cut cessations. Adjudicator II promotes and maintains professional relationships with SSA personnel, claim representatives and medical providers and provides technical advice and assistance in problem resolution to less experienced adjudicators.
Job Responsibilities Performs comprehensive reviews of assigned intake cases. Documents and adjudicates claims that have been denied a period of disability at the initial level and that have a request for reconsideration that was filed timely. Assesses Continuing Disability Review (CDR) claims to determine if disability continues, reviews past decisions upon receipt to determine if claimant's impairment meets the medical improvement review standard established by the Social Security Reform Act of 1984, checks for entitlement to extended periods of eligibility or clear-cut cessations. Determines validity and appropriateness of prior reconsideration case decisions that are remanded to the Disability Determination Services (DDS) for possible reopening and revision. Assists Administrative Law Judges and/or SSA Appeals Council. Provides technical advice to less experienced adjudicators and provides assistance in problem resolution at any stage of case development. Serves on special task groups as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires a bachelor's degree, with major courses in medical, premedical, legal, prelegal, nursing, psychology, pharmacy, health, biological sciences, physical sciences, business administration, management or disability claims adjudication  OR requires current valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois, plus three (3) years of professional registered nursing experience. Requires two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience as a Disability Claims Adjudicator I. Conditions of Employment Requires ability to pass a federal employment background check. Individuals selected for positions with the Illinois Disability Determination Service (DDS) must go through a complete federal background investigation suitability determination by the Social Security Administration. Those individuals meeting the state requirements for employment must first complete the federal background investigation prior to their start date. This is necessary to determine whether an employee can be issued credentials in order to have access to the Social Security Disability data, records and systems.
