Job Description: Position Purpose
The Director of Sports Facilities is responsible for the overall management of operations for the University's sport facilities, exclusive of the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. This position oversees and manages the comprehensive operations and scheduling of Halenbeck Hall, Husky Stadium, and Selke Field. This includes securing rentals, facility scheduling and set-up, third party rental billing, and upkeep of playing equipment. The position also coordinates custodial, general maintenance, security, parking and concessions services for athletics, recreation, and special events. This position is responsible for staffing, for building and athletics event management, including hiring, scheduling and training of student and contracted support staff (building managers, activity space supervisors, event ushers/ticket takers, game supervisors, etc.). Responsibilities
The Director of Sport Facilities will be responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising all part-time student employees to effectively run a comprehensive sport facilities operation. They will assist in the training and supervision of the departments building managers. Will review and approve bi-weekly payroll for part-time student employees. Will be responsible for all scheduling of part-time student staff for all home athletic contests and other events as needed.
The position will develop, implement, and maintain event services policies and procedures for University sport facilities, including event management of multiple intercollegiate sports, sport facilities rentals, student recreation, and special events, including staffing, supervision, security, facility set-up/tear down and full oversight and execution of dome up and dome down.
The position executes external rental contracts and participates in event meetings as needed. The positions assists with financial transactions for University sport facilities, including monthly account reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable, and regular deposits to the SCSU business office. They will coordinate facility scheduling and work order systems and defining schedule usage for Athletics, Campus Recreation, the Kinesiology Department, and other users. They will coordinate schedules for building managers and general maintenance in coordination with University and Non-University users.
The position will be responsible for revenue generation for the department through rentals. This will require development and execution of a revenue generation plan to ensure continued revenue growth. This will include daily outreach goals to ensure that we are utilizing space through rentals whenever possible.
Other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Sport Administration, Physical Education or related field plus one year of related experience. Demonstrated ability to establish effective goal-oriented relationships. Strong organization skills and ability to take initiative, multi-task, and achieve a high level of productivity in a collaborative environment under time sensitive deadlines. Ability to work nights and weekends as needed. Evidence of the ability to work with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in a related field and a minimum of two years of related experience. Demonstrated ability to perform accurate, detail-oriented work, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor. Demonstrated ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and sound judgments. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to comprehend potential issues and address them before they become problematic. Ability to function professionally in highly stressful situations to provide clear information on an impromptu basis to individuals or groups of people. Strong interpersonal/communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Strong organization and technology skills.
