The Director of Programs & Events for River City Company (RCC) serves an integral role on the Marketing & Communication team and works to animate and activate Downtown Chattanooga by creating and supporting strategic programs that foster a sense of belonging and community, while also enhancing economic development. This individual will cultivate, build, and maintain dynamic partnerships with local businesses, other non-profits, community organizations, and government entities to assist in the delivery of high quality and impactful programs and events for Downtown Chattanooga.
The ideal candidate is an accomplished Programs/Events professional who will plan and execute RCC's programs and events while being responsible for representing RCC to the Chattanooga community and working collaboratively with the RCC team to create a vibrant downtown for all Chattanoogans.
Job Duties include (but are not limited to): Research, develop, plan and execute programs and events that create an authentic, inclusive and vibrant experience in downtown Chattanooga. Develop and maintain relationships with RCC partners, community organizations, local businesses and downtown stakeholders to enhance existing programs, as well as encourage and facilitate downtown animation. Strategize and execute programming plans to activate spaces and places downtown in support of economic development. Design programs that are rooted in RCC's strategic plan in order to address specific needs in the downtown footprint. Ensure programs and events are implemented on time, within budget and according to quality standards. Work alongside the Vice President of Marketing and Communication and Development Specialist to secure funding for RCC programs. Organize and execute RCC programs and events with assistance of Program & Communication Manager including, but not limited to, Rock the Riverfront, Lighted Boat Parade, Emerging Producers, Gratefull, Summerween, Noontunes ect. Conduct outreach to organizations to support and facilitate programming in public spaces like Miller Park, Chattanooga Green, Patten Square and Cooper's Alley. Manage and handle all reservations of Cooper's Alley, including providing tours to potential event hosts, and coordinating with business owners along the alleyway. Oversee the Cooper's Alley, Emerging Producers and Patten Square Advisory Committees. Support events and partnerships that increase foot traffic to local businesses, support arts and culture downtown and increase the perception of the bikeability and walkability of Downtown Chattanooga. Work closely with members of the Marketing and Communication team to ensure a coordinated effort for program graphics and promotions. Qualifications : Bachelor's degree or experience equivalent to 5+ years in program and event management A demonstrated track record of planning, development, and execution of creative and innovative events and programs Ability to see the bigger picture and understand relationships between programs, economic development, and community involvement Collaborate cross-departmentally with a multifaceted internal team Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills along with the ability to effectively interface with senior management, staff, RCC partners, and the community A proactive problem solver who is energetic, flexible and collaborative Passion for RCC's mission, the downtown Chattanooga community, and for creating a downtown for all Chattanoogans Broad understanding of, and willingness to stay aware of, programming and activation trends in other cities, and public spaces within Chattanooga to be creative and thoughtful on future programs and activations Proven ability to handle large programs and events with an organized and detail-oriented approach meeting key deadlines without sacrificing quality. Knowledge of Asana is a plus. Work Environment: The typical work environment is a controlled business office with weekday hours of 8:30 am until 5:00 pm. Some programs and events may take place outside of standard business hours or on the weekends. The schedule will be determined with proper notice and RCC allows for flex time in these cases to compensate for hours worked outside of normal business hours. There are occasions when to perform the job, you may have to work in small spaces, high temperatures or extreme weather conditions, and with loud noises. There are occasions when to perform the job, you may be asked to execute tasks within a short radius of the office including going to locations such as parks and local businesses. There are occasions when to perform the job, you may be asked to be mobile or standing for multiple hours, bend, reach, and stretch, or be asked to lift up to 50lbs.
