Reporting to the Senior Vice-President of Finance & Business Operations, the Director of Market Research will lead all market research activities for the organization. This role is essential in devising and implementing strategies to grow the visitor economy, secure conventions, events, and trade shows for the region.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a cost-effective market research program to meet the organization's needs, including conducting primary research and analyzing secondary/syndicated data.
- Leverage data analysis to inform decision-making and strategy development within the organization and the industry.
- Monitor ongoing performance reporting programs, providing accurate and timely assessments against contract metrics, and delivering monthly reports to hotel partners and stakeholders.
- Develop market performance effectiveness measures to monitor economic impact, visitor arrivals/spending, hotel occupancy, advertising, and other key metrics.
- Produce statistical and analytical reports/forecasts on visitation data for internal and external stakeholders.
- Respond to data/insight requests, present market research findings, and provide market updates for stakeholders, including fee-based research for partners.
- Identify and communicate destination marketing trends.
- Prepare presentation content for industry conferences, workshops, and seminars related to the visitor economy.
- Provide cooperative leadership in the organization's strategic planning and goal-setting processes.
- Develop and manage the annual market research budget, including supplier/consultant management, tools, and training.
- Participate in internal task forces, committees, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, business analytics, statistics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in market research or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to source and analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
- Experience in preparing and delivering effective presentations of research findings and implications.
- Ability to synthesize research data to inform strategic planning processes.
- Understanding of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries and their performance factors.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational, multi-tasking, and project management skills for independent and team work.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and other data analysis tools.
- Strong commitment to values of Service, Collaboration, Inclusion, Passion, and Integrity.
- Valid private driver's license.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Hybrid work environment (60% in-office, 40% remote).
- Attend off-site meetings and events as needed.
- Limited travel and work outside of core business hours may be required.
- General office environment with walking, sitting, bending, squatting, talking, hearing, grabbing, pulling, bending items, lifting/carrying up to 10 lbs., and viewing items at close and distant ranges.
- Sit for extended periods and use computers extensively.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive base salary range of $90,000 - $110,000 plus annual bonus.
- Generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401(k), vacation, sick time, parental leave, and personal volunteer time for eligible employees.
