As the Director of Human Resources, you will play a crucial role in shaping our organization's future. You will lead the Human Resources functions, providing expert consultation to leadership and staff, fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment, and ensuring compliance with all employment regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Act as a key HR advisor to our executive team, offering insights on recruitment, employee performance, employment law, and organizational culture.
Policy and Compliance Oversight: Oversee the management and strategic direction of human resource policies, labor relations, and compliance. You will also lead union negotiations and manage compensation and benefits frameworks.
Internal Communications: Lead internal communications, ensuring responsiveness to queries from staff and leadership via multiple platforms. Organize and lead staff meetings and presentations to promote transparency and engagement.
Team Development and Management: Guide and support the HR team in setting goals, enhancing performance, and fostering professional growth.
Employee Engagement: Collaborate with other leaders to nurture a workplace that is both results-oriented and employee-friendly, enhancing staff satisfaction and productivity.
Benefits Administration: Spearhead the development and implementation of equitable and competitive salary and benefits packages to attract and retain top talent.
Community Engagement: Represent our organization in community events, employment fairs, and professional gatherings, enhancing our community presence and involvement.
Education and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
Master's degree is preferred.
Professional HR certification (PHR or SPHR) is an advantage.
Experience:
A minimum of five years of HR generalist experience, with a preference for those who have worked in the public sector.
At least seven years in a supervisory or management role.
Proven experience in labor negotiations and strategic HR management.
Skills and Competencies:
Extensive knowledge of federal and state labor laws and public employment regulations in Michigan.
Strong understanding of management and HR best practices.
Proficient in handling HRIS and modern communication tools.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage crises and complex situations effectively.
Additional Information:
This role requires a flexible schedule including availability for occasional evening or weekend events.
