Position Summary Applications are being accepted for the Director of Financial Planning and Assistance position. The Director supervises and coordinates the Office of Financial Assistance, develops and manages the yearly institutional financial aid budget, and administers the federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs. The position also serves as a member of the Enrollment Management leadership team, along with directors of admissions, operations and transfers, strategic initiatives, and athletics.
Duties & Responsibilities Manage and supervise the Office of Financial Assistance. Develop and manage, through detailed analysis, the annual institutional financial assistance budget. Prepare and submit the annual Federal Fiscal Operation Report and Application for Funds (FISAP). Monitor all program expenditures and fund balances. Annual audit of financial assistance funds. Provide financial counseling, planning, and advising to prospective and current students and parents. Prepare financial assistance awards to prospective and current students. Establish and implement federal, state, and institutional awarding policies and procedures. Coordinate the awarding of funded and endowed scholarships. Develop written communication pieces for returning and prospective students.
Submit in a timely and accurate manner, reports to various associations (ACM, Iowa College Student Aid Commission, etc.)  Represent the college at on-campus and off-campus admission and financial assistance programs.
Coordinate and manage the staffing of the Financial Assistance personnel.
Serve as the college coordinator for the Tuition Exchange Program. Implement and update the online computer system including the development of computer reports and training of staff as to the proficiency of the system. Represent Cornell College at local, state, regional, and national conferences. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Education Requirements A bachelor's degree or equivalent is required. Three years of related experience in higher education is required.
Preferred Skills Knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs, and preparing financial aid awards. Ability to counsel students and parents on financing an education. Ability to effectively communicate and interact professionally in a variety of situations (in person and on the telephone). Ability to maintain confidentiality. Skills in analyzing data, creating financial aid budgets, and knowledge of computers. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, and Excel is helpful.
Working Conditions Work is performed primarily while seated in an office environment. All requirements are subject to change over time, with possible modifications made to reasonably accommodate individuals with a disability. This position works in-person.
