BOXCAR THEATRE produces unique and immersive event experiences in San Francisco, including public performances, and private & corporate events that include: holiday parties, team-building activities, client entertainment, weddings and birthday parties.

The Venue Director is a full-time, exempt salaried position in the Management Office of BOXCAR THEATRE. Compensation is based on experience and performance. The position is eligible for paid time off and other benefits.
The Venue Director reports to the VP of Operations and supervises the FOH Department including: Event Managers, Concierges, Pit Bosses, FOH Associates, Security, and Coat Check. In addition, the Venue Director also oversees the facilities team including: House Technicians, Facilities Manager, and Janitorial Staff.
The position works closely and communicates with the Food & Beverage Director, Bar Manager, Box Office Manager, Event Coordinator, and Entertainment Director to successfully execute all private and public events.
The Venue Director is responsible for setting Department goals, managing and helping Team Members to create exceptional five-star Client and Patron experiences during private events and Boxcar related programming, including performances of The Speakeasy.
The Venue Director must perform the following tasks to the highest standards:
Provide exceptional leadership around the the principals of 5-star service
Supervise daily FOH operations
Set Departmental objectives, work schedules, policies and procedures
Develop department expense budgets and ensure on-budget performance
Monitor the appearance, standards and performance of all FOH Team Members with an emphasis on training and teamwork
Ensure the venue and all workstations are kept clean, organized and event-ready, including fulfilling any maintenance needs
Review Client and Patron satisfaction reports and implement actions to improve results
Maintain good communication and working relationships with all departments and colleagues
Implement ongoing reporting methods tracking profits and profit margin, with a focus on increasing sales velocity
Provide exceptional leadership among all staff; project and cultivate a professional manner with an emphasis on hospitality and Guest service
Attend meetings as required, including: operations, productions, private events, and staff meetings
Conduct routine job performance reviews for all direct reports
Primary Duties Include:
FRONT OF HOUSE
Hire, fire, train, manage, and schedule all FOH Staff Members
Augment departmental needs when required
Execute bi-weekly payroll
Budget, monitor, and oversee the ordering of all supplies
Track expenditures against budgets and provide periodic reports as requested
Manage day to day customer service, including: lost and found, Customer questions and complaints ensuring satisfaction
Develop and maintain emergency procedures, conduct emergency drills, train staff and provide leadership in emergencies
IMMERSIVE PRODUCTIONS
Implement Guest Flow and Crowd Management techniques
Develop, implement, and document FOH tracks and responsibilities
Create and maintain an effective table reservation system
Ensure linens are clean and all service equipment is in proper working order
Ensure the venue maintains a comfortable temperature for Clients and Guests
Responsible for the cleanliness of the venue, including lavatories and making sure the space is set up and "show ready"
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Necessary Qualifications:
A minimum of five years of experience in the hospitality industry is required
A minimum of five years of management experience is required; such experience in the hospitality industry is preferred
Bachelor's degree required
Advanced degree in hospitality management preferred
