Supervisor's Title: PastorStatus: ExemptStart Date: June 17, 2024Job Summary:Responsible for developing and implementing programs for the faith formation of parish youth and adults. Major responsibilities include: coordinating the K-9 Sunday school program & youth events (future summer Bible school and other events for families and youth).Developing/implementing an evangelization program for active and inactive parishioners.Coordinating adult faith formation sessions such as Scripture studies and book studies.Developing ways to use parish communications to evangelize parishioners.Coordinating parish retreats and missions.Overseeing/supervising all ministries in the parish (youth groups/young adult groups, formation, liturgical)As the parish is a bi-lingual community, this position would include work within the Hispanic community and all their ministries as well.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:Eligible for Advanced Religious Education Certification with the Diocese of Charleston.Working knowledge/skill in computer technology necessary for work.Professional working attitude and collaborative approach.Strong verbal and written communications skills.Strong organizational skills.Strong presentation skills.Ability to make decisions, attentive to details, and troubleshoot.Ability to speak Spanish is highly desiredAlso:Ability to maintain confidentiality.Has completed diocesan required Safe Haven safe environment training.Duties and Responsibilities:• Directs the operation of the respective direct reports, e.g., schedules, supervises, andevaluates volunteers and any staff that is hired to help.• Coordinates and provides initial and ongoing formation of ministries in the area ofCatechesis, evangelization and youth ministry.Recruit (new and existing), screen, train, enrich, and recognize catechists and volunteers.Ensures catechists are sufficiently educated in the faith according to guidelines from theDiocese of Charleston.• Meets regularly with catechist and volunteer teams for spiritual formation/trainingworkshops, retreats / days of recollection, meetings, and rehearsals.• Have a written catechist and volunteer schedule with backups.Budget and Expenses:Prepares annual budget.Monthly monitor expenses and revenues.Authorizes respective expenditures within the approved budget.Attends staff meetings and all other meetings at the request of the Pastor/supervisor.Faith Formation:• Collaborates with the Pastor/Priest to manifest the vision for catechetical and sacramentallife of the parish.Fosters parishioner participation in faith formation, evangelization, and stewardship.Provides opportunities for parent engagement and dialog to strengthen their role as faithleaders in their child's life and to the community at large.• Provides opportunities for youth and/or young faith formation education, adultgatherings, prayer, social events, retreats and community engagement.• Provides programs and faith building activities for parishioners in all stages of familylife.Programs:• Directs faith formation programs from child to adults, e.g., faith formation andsacramental preparation programs (e.g., first reconciliation, first Holy Communion, Confirmation, family/special needs catechesis, etc.).Implements the policies of the Diocese of Charleston for catechesis and evangelization.With consultation of the Pastor, selects appropriate catechetical materials based on theUnited States Catholic Conference of Bishops and Diocesan guidelines.Maintains accurate records in a timely basis, e.g., attendance, sacrament, etc.Provides continued support for new and existing catechists by being present before,during, and after classes.Assures supervision of minors while on parish/school grounds for catechetical activities according to Safe Haven / Diocese of Charleston guidelines.Effectively manages student behavior and works with parents.Plan and coordinate practice(s)/rehearsals.Ensures copyright and licensing requirement permissions.Orders and maintains inventory faith formation materials and supplies.Evangelization• Welcomes, educates, spiritually enriches and grows the parish community via new andexisting programs.• Create, design, and implement a 'welcome/welcome back' plan for new, passive, orinactive parishioners.• Responds to inquiries of those interested in the Catholic faith and refers them if needed toparish deacon for RCIA.• Promotes evangelization programs and educational opportunities for parishCommunications:• Serves as a link for parishioners, parents, parish and staff, and catechist/volunteersregarding faith formation.Schedules events and respective calendars.Create media releases and develop social media programs that engage and encourageinvolvement.Other:Visibly engaged at principle parish events.Fosters positive public relations in and outside the parish/school.Attends respective Diocesan and Deanery workshops/programs as needed.Other duties as assigned.ADA Physical Requirements:The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear.The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods; use hands; reach withhands and arms.Close vision required for paperwork and computer.Able to utilize computer keyboard, monitor, and telephone.This role functions in an office environment and uses standard office equipment.Ability to lift 20 pounds.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. However, will supervise volunteer leaders in all ministriesMinimum Qualifications:Education:Bachelor's Degree required. Master's in theology or Pastoral Ministry preferred.In cases where there is no Master's degree there should be evidence of education in pastoral ministry and/or catechesis - at least 3 years of formal study.Experience:Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Family Ministry and/or Parish Catechesis and Faith Formation. Ministry with families is preferred.Experience using key catechetical documents such as Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Directory for Catechesis, Evangelii Gaudium to guide parish ministry.Must be a Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church.License and Credentials:Reliable transportationValid driver licenseValid vehicle insuranceMinimum Knowledge and Skills:Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred;Bi-cultural background to recognize and engage different social realities and challenges is highly preferred.Intimate knowledge of the Sacred Scriptures and the capacity to offer formation through the lens of the Word of God.Excellence in organizational management, setting and achieving goals and objectives, and managing a budget.Past success working with committees and the ability to cultivate existing committee member relationships.Strong public relations skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders that include parishes, groups, other churches, as well as within and beyond the Pastoral Center.Excellent written and verbal communication skills; a passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills, including: professional tact and courtesy, and ability to express ideas clearly, creatively, and logically, both orally and in writing.Experience with computer software and thorough proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite.
