The Director of Development will lead the organization's efforts to secure a broad base of funding for the programs serving at-risk youth at J Bar J. Funding opportunities include private donations, estate planning; capital and endowment gifts, foundation and corporate gifts, government grants, contributions from special events and gifts from Alumni. This high performance position networks with community members and youth agency's to promote the work of the organization and motivate support in the way of donations, volunteers and general support for the work. The Director must have the ability to develop collaborative relations with other organizations and programs for youth. The qualified applicant must have the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, dynamic work environment. This position reports directly to the J Bar J Youth Services President/CEO. Responsibilities: Develop major gifts solicitation/strategic plan with the President/CEO. Develop a corporate and community partnership cultivation program that results in strong philanthropic partnerships and underwriting for special events. Support existing special events, evaluate new ideas for fund development. Engages and teams with other staff in raising funds for programs. Oversees the Marketing team and looks for opportunities for media coverage for all agency activities. Assists the organization's corporate, foundation and government grants writing projects, and research grant opportunities. Establish and cultivate relationships with foundation staff and trustees and elected officials. Work in conjunction with a grant writer. Leads the organization's communications and public relations efforts, including annual reports, newsletters, website, and press releases. Supervises in-kind donations. Serves as a member of the organization's leadership team. Leads the donor database tracking team. Complies with all agency and funding regulations. Assists the President/CEO with special projects and other duties as needed. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a record of setting and meeting fundraising targets. A minimum of two years of progressive responsibility in a social service organization is strongly preferred. Completion of a four-year college degree with an emphasis on business, marketing, or communications. Experience with development databases. The ability to interact positively and motivate a wide variety of donors, volunteers, staff community and Board members. Ability to set goals, develop plans, measure progress, and report outcomes is essential. Communicates effectively. Expresses self clearly with all types of individuals and audiences; assists in creating an environment conducive to open, honest and accurate exchange; listens genuinely; exercises superior oral and written skills. Strives for excellence. Creates a passion for excellence in others; elevates morale by recognizing everyone's contributions and appreciating their work; celebrates accomplishments; operates with openness and receptivity to feedback from donors, staff and volunteers.
