Director Of Accounting

Director Of Accounting
Company:

Peerless Fence

Details of the offer

About the Company Peerless Fence Group is a rapidly growing, privately owned business providing residential and commercial fencing in the Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast. The business is run by a recently hired CEO and CFO, who are leading Peerless Fence Group through a period of rapid expansion fueled by organic growth and acquisitions (new geographies and service offerings).
One of the ways Peerless differentiates itself is through partnering with entrepreneur or family owned fencing companies and expanding its growth through marketing and technology initiatives.
Peerless recently hired its first CFO, to build and professionalize the accounting and finance function and support Peerless' continued growth (targeting >30% revenue growth in 2024).
About the Role Peerless is seeking a motivated and experienced Director of Accounting to play a key role in leading and building the accounting function in close collaboration with the new CFO. This role will be the first hire for the accounting team and as such requires the flexibility and desire to shift between execution and strategy (e.g., executing month end close with the CFO while playing a leading role in the planning and implementation of its new ERP). This individual must have a strong technical accounting skillset and experience working with Quickbooks.
The ideal candidate will have experience in an operating role at one or more high growth businesses where they developed a "hands-on," pragmatic, and collaborative approach. Comfort with the ambiguity common while building processes in high growth businesses will be critical.
This role offers significant opportunity for growth and advancement, including the expectation that an accounting team will be built out in the short term and this position will grow into a leadership role under the Peerless Fence Group and a member of the management team. The CFO will support and mentor the right candidate into a senior role through his experience building finance teams at multiple PE-sponsored businesses.
This role is mostly remote with approximately 25% travel to our operating locations (more upon onboarding). The ideal candidate is based in the Midwest or East Coast near a major airport.
Key Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day accounting operations to maintain accurate financial statements in compliance with GAAP standards Responsible for consolidation of the individual branch financials from Quickbooks or their ERPs until migrated into the consolidated ERP Responsible for recording financial transactions, journal entries, reconciliations, adjustments, and other critical accounting items of the Corporate entity Ownership of the month-end closing processes and its completion in a timely manner Develop and implement new process and policies, including inventory, controls, and AP/AR  Own AP and AR processes Play a leading role in the transition from QuickBooks to the new company ERP Establish, document, implement, and maintain accounting policies and internal controls to safeguard company assets as the business evolves Prepare the Company for and execute the annual and OBS audits Build an accounting team in the medium term Lead accounting processes related to acquisitions, such as purchase price allocations, opening balance sheet preparation, and integration of systems and processes Play a leading role alongside the CFO in building a high-performing, professional accounting / finance function  Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field 5+ years of experience, including at least 3 years as an Accounting Manager in an operating company Strong technical accounting skills and awareness of when additional outside technical advice is needed Flexible, pragmatic and collaborative approach to solving problems and supporting the CFO in building the Accounting function  Prior experience with an ERP migration and Quickbooks (for newly acquired sites) preferred Effective communication and interpersonal skills Excellent leadership and team management skills Experience working in an entrepreneurial environment and comfort "getting into the weeds" until the team and processes are built out  Benefits Competitive salary and performance-based incentives, including cash bonuses Generous health, dental, vision, and retirement plans 401(k) Paid time off Parental leave Opportunity to build a team with potential for advancement to Vice President
