This role will be based in our Glen Allen, VA office. We offer a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so. The company is an equal opportunity employer.
Responsibilities As as Decision Science Director , you will lead, drive, and participate in the cross-departmental collaboration to support business partners in making informed, data-driven decisions and promotes the advancement of CWG's analytical culture and capabilities. We'll trust you to lead a team of data professionals, while using strong business acumen to identify and prioritize opportunities for improving business partner decisions. You'll be a primary liaison for business partner(s) with other teams/departments (regional companies, Actuarial, Finance, Data Science, etc.) to develop and enhance solutions that improve decision-making processes. You'll partner with with IT to access, explore and condition data. Develops and deploys solutions using data analysis, data mining, optimization tools, machine learning techniques and statistics.
You'll promote the advancement of advanced analytics capabilities, including business intelligence and predictive/prescriptive modeling. You'll serve as a catalyst in the evolution of the regional segment's business intelligence capabilities and champion of self-serve analytics capabilities while also being a steward for internal and external data sources, supporting data governance and the continuous improvement of data availability and data quality.

Researches, designs, implements, and validates solutions to achieve targeted outcomes. Produce data visualization such as charts, infographics, and dashboards to communicate findings and actionable recommendations to internal stakeholders clearly and effectively. Uncover new opportunities by leveraging analytic practices to design, build new, creative, high impact analytic solutions.Develop and maintain relationships with other Berkley operating units to capitalize on opportunities and efficiencies. Develop a high performing team through leadership acumen and execution. Demonstrates genuine care and delivers coaching to staff to further develop their skills set and performance for current and future roles. Provides frequent and specific constructive feedback on a regular basis. Contributes to the organization's success by developing business unit and individual performance goals and measuring results. Provides recognition and acknowledgement of key achievements. Create a high-performance culture through effective communication, quality goal setting and proactive management of performance. Provide regular and effective feedback, coaching and guidance. Establishes development plans for employees to address knowledge gaps and facilitate career growth. Partner with Human Resources to make hiring, termination, and compensation decisions. Qualifications What you need to have: Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university; or 7-10 years related experience in a business analyst, actuarial analyst, or other comparable analytics role; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in a leadership role Demonstrated critical thinking, problem analysis, and problem resolution skills at both a strategic and functional level Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook Microsoft Access, SAS, R, SQL and business intelligence/visual analytics skills required Ability to travel on an occasional basis What makes you stand out: Experience attracting, coaching and developing talent Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to lead people and influence others to achieve results Strong business acumen with the ability to communicate with both business partner and IT leaders Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills Works effectively with all levels and can easily build new relationships Possess strong analytical ability to dissect, manage and interpret all levels of data Expertise in analyzing large, complex, multi-dimensional datasets using a variety of tools In-depth knowledge of the business practice and process Strong customer orientation, teamwork and collaboration skills Work independently as well as effectively manage a project and/or lead a team Additional Company Details We do not accept any unsolicited resumes from external recruiting agencies or firms.
