The Center for Teaching Excellence and Innovation (CTEI) leads instructional innovation and assists faculty, staff, and graduate students with their instructional responsibilities. This includes advising faculty as they seek to integrate digital resources into their teaching and education research. The staff position, Digital Education Solutions Designer (DESD) facilitates workshops on teaching-related multimedia topics as a member of the CTEI training staff. The DESD works with faculty and CTEI staff to manage the development of digital resources and equipment for use inside and outside the classroom. The DESD supports the CTEI's outreach mission by contributing to CTEI's electronic and print publications and helping to manage CTEI intranet applications, staff workflows, and equipment.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities Provide faculty instructional technology support. (50%) Consults with faculty on instructional technology. Designs and teaches workshops on instructional technology and multimedia topics. Delivers guest lectures in undergraduate and graduate courses on instructional technology resources. Acts as liaison and project manager on grant-funded projects. Consults with faculty, staff, and senior administration on educational projects and initiatives. Advises faculty on effective use of multimedia resources for teaching and education research. Manages equipment needed by faculty to support their instructional responsibilities. Instructs faculty on equipment uses. Advises on functional (scope) requirements for faculty multimedia projects. Creates paper and electronic documents that support instruction (e.g., innovative instructor series) Manage CTEI intranet applications & staff workflows. (40%) Leads design and maintenance efforts for CTEI website and related central JHU websites. Researches and chooses appropriate development platforms. Manages web applications & reporting systems (e.g., SharePoint, dashboards) for tracking CTEI programs (e.g., effort reporting, equipment tracking, program documentation) Determines need for, recruits, and manages student workers. Prototypes and tests digital environments for CTEI and faculty projects. Manages Center's educational technology equipment loaner program. Ensures staff work equipment updated and operating efficiently. Leads design efforts for CTEI brochures, grant proposals, and training/event publications. Research and shares multimedia resources used to support faculty's teaching mission. (10%) Identifies, evaluates, and recommends instructional technology resources. Attends professional conferences, research professional literature, and reports on relevance to Johns Hopkins. Represents the CTEI on University-wide committees and in public forums. Advocates use of technology as an instructional tool to faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, donors, granting institutions/foundations and the public. Contributes to the establishments of policies and procedures in the CTEI. Internal and External Contacts Internal full-time and part-time faculty, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, senior administration, and technical staff. External consultants, contractors, vendors, external faculty. Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Excellent project management skills, ability to set and fulfill priorities, independence, and time management capabilities – this job requires the individual who holds it to be a self-starter who sets goals for herself/himself and members of the teams s/he may lead, develops strategies for meeting them, and achieves them with minimal oversight. Thorough knowledge of current and emerging multimedia technologies, instructional technologies, and programming languages. Knowledge of accessibility standards. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Level of Independent Decision Making Consult daily with faculty, graduate students, and staff on educational technology and advise them on best practices and fix technical problems. Physical Requirements  Occasional light lifting of educational technology or workshop preparation. Supervisory responsibility Student workers (1-2 as needed) Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree. Three years related experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
