Position SummaryThe Lean Enterprise and Assessment Unit (LEAU) reports to the Senior Vice President for Student Life and Engagement (SLE), and is charged with supporting and advancing a high-performance culture by working with colleagues to identify and address student development and student/guest experience excellence opportunities.
Basic Function The position assists with the collection, analysis, and distribution of various data (such as student information systems (e.g., Campus Solutions), survey data, and other sources) to support strategic planning, decision making, program development, and the assessment of student success and excellence in guest experience through and within the Division of Student Life & Engagement (SLE).
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities Apply and advocate for best practices with respect to DEI and student data.Work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, LGBTQIA+, and gender backgrounds.Perform descriptive statistical techniques and reporting, where appropriate.Conduct analyses that support decision making and planning.Assist with projects related to student success and guest experience as follows: data collection; in-depth studies and analysis.Assist process excellence efforts in establishing metrics to reinforce Enterprise Excellence principles and objectives and implement visual techniques to track progress/issues.Utilize historical and current data assessment (trends analysis) to accurately reflect performance and monitor for needed improvements.Increase the use of data visualization to widely share assessment efforts taking place throughout the division. This may include supervising an undergraduate intern who would be responsible for the design of infographics.Handle, secure, and present confidential materials in accordance with MSU policies and federal/state regulations.Participates in professional organizations, conferences, and workshops to keep informed of current ideas, research, and practices related to the position.Other duties and projects as assigned.Communications – Interpersonal Relationships Interacts with: SLE Leadership – to present and share data, research and survey results.
SLE Chief Lean Enterprise Officer – to assist and conduct special data science projects.
Lean Enterprise & Assessment Team – to share information and assist with projects.
SLE Management – to assist with surveys and research requests for their unit.
SLE Team Members – to facilitate focus groups and conduct/compile survey results.
Responsibility for the Work of Others May act as a first-level supervisor over student employees. 
Responsibility for the Health-Safety of Others No assigned responsibility.
Impact on Programs – Services – Operations Reporting incorrect information could negatively affect the decision-making process for SLE units and cause short and long-term plans to be made.
Work Environment Standard office environment.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/SkillsKnowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work, such as a Master's in Educational Administration, Statistics, Economics or Research Methodology; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research design, statistical methods and knowledge of computer hardware and software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, Python, R, SAS, NVivo); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired QualificationsStrong evidence of a commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.Experience with using statistical software packages for data mining and analysis.Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, as well as familiarity with other Office software.Data visualization skills and experience with visualization software such as Tableau.Proven ability to manage complex projects and meet multiple deadlines.Ability to clearly articulate findings to non-technical audiences in an easily understandable, clear, and precise manner. Strong record of working with detailed information with attention to accuracy.Experience working in a college setting.Additional Qualifications 1. May require valid vehicle operator's license where needed to perform duties of the position.
2. Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
3. This position requires or will require prior to the completion of the probationary period: knowledge of sophisticated personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.
