Summary: Under the supervision of the Kewanee Program Director, the Dance Instructor manages all dance activities at the Kewanee Branch.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Develop and manage the dance schedules.Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum for all participant. Coordinate facility use with Kewanee Program Director.Provide choreography plans to Program Director and participate in regular assessments.Manage the sizing and ordering of recital costumes.Coordinate recital plans, music, decorations, and schedule with Program Director. Maintain accurate records.Attend all staff meetings and training events as required. Maintain a professional image in the YMCA and community.Schedule regular meetings with Program Director to ensure program offering is consistent throughout the session.Suggest recommended equipment purchases for each program.Communicate effectively with staff and members.Assist with custodial work when necessary. Effect and End Results: The effect of the competent Dance Instructor will be offering a variety of dance styles for families in our service area to meet the needs of the people living in our community. The end result will be professionally coordinated instructional dance program with a robust level of participants.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises dance assistant staff and volunteers. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or general education degree (GED); and three years of program experience.
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, policy/procedure manuals, and employment applications. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with member/non-members, employees, vendors and contractors.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages. Interpret budget reports and effectively communicate monthly variances.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in abstract and standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: CPR/AED, Blood borne Pathogens, Child Abuse prevention, a valid Driver's License and valid Car Insurance.
Other Skills and Abilities: Must have knowledge of how to effectively teaching core dance movements to youth and have an understanding of proper dance terminology. Must have competence on a computer.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; in outside weather conditions; and with explosives and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic and caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but at times loud.
