The University of Iowa Libraries seeks to hire a creative coordinator (PMD2/3B) to support communication strategies for targeted audiences through the development and implementation of design concepts and visual communications. This includes design and production for print and digital media as well as exhibits for all UI Libraries locations and units.
The creative coordinator reports to the senior director of strategic communications and external relations at the UI Libraries and works in collaboration with team members, librarians, researchers, developers, and campus partners to help increase the visibility of the organization and its services.
Key areas of responsibilities and specific job tasks:
Concept and Brand Identity
Develop concepts, components, and standards for small- to large-scale messaging campaigns directed at specific audiences and develop and manage systems for design assets and files. Follow established university brand guidelines. Media and Materials Creation
Work closely with members of the Libraries Communications Office to develop and produce products including social media content, signage, event promotion materials, strategic campaigns, and print and digital publications. Project and Production Management
Working with high-volume design tasks that are deadline driven with a strong ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation. Develop visual concepts for print, web, photography, and Libraries spaces in collaboration with colleagues, curators, and freelancers. Respond to project manager feedback. Provide specs to vendors. Oversee print production. Financial Responsibility
Develop project options within established budgets. May analyze, monitor, and report financial data, information, and reports for project(s). May initiate and approve fiscal transactions. Supervision/Leadership
May provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and counseling to assure outcomes are achieved for freelancers, students, and temporary staff. This position is eligible for on-campus and/or hybrid remote work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location .
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in art, graphic design, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience Experience (typically 1-3 years) in graphic design-related techniques, methods, and materials Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator) Experience working with high-volume design tasks that are deadline driven with a strong ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation. Experience working both independently and collaboratively to identify and execute workflow Experience with developing and managing detailed design file storage and management systems Demonstrated ability to support a welcoming and respectful environment in a job-related experience, an academic setting, and/or the community. Desired Qualifications
Experience developing and producing products including signage, event promotion materials, social media content, strategic campaigns, and print and digital publications. Experience designing and mounting general signage as well as exhibitions or a show in a formal gallery space (e.g., the Main Library Gallery). Working experience with photography including photo art direction and photo editing. Demonstrated organizational and collaboration skills. Application Details:

The hiring salary range for the Creative Coordinator position is $50,000 - $62,000.
