Job Summary: The University of Kentucky Department of Theatre & Dance is seeking a temporary (11-month assignment ) Costume Studio Manager to contribute to an inclusive environment of college-wide costume support. The qualified candidate will become the leading member of a team, including 1 cutter/draper and 1 costume stock/rental staff member, that work in a creative and collaborative manner with members of the production teams for theatre, opera, and dance. This team provides costume support and coordination for an 8-show season that includes 3 theatre productions, 1 musical, 1 dance concert, and 2 opera performances over the Fall and Spring semesters. The final show is a music theatre review produced in the early summer.
Primary responsibilities include:· Budgeting and labor estimation for costume studio· Purchasing fabric and studio supplies· Coordination of measurements, fittings, and costume construction· Participate in a team approach to construct and alter costumes for productions· Represent costume studio in production meetings and rehearsals· Wardrobe crew training, management, and oversight· Design 2-3 productions within the Fall and Spring semesters· Serve as liaison to guest costume designers for 3-4 shows· Mentor student costume designers for 2-3 shows· Manage and teach practicum students with support from the Cutter/Draper in the costume studio (8-12 per semester)· Support student led Studio Season within established departmental guidelines
