Job Description
The Office of Student Involvement (OSI) LGBTQ+ and Diversity Coordinator provides leadership for the development, implementation, and assessment of programs and services that support LGBTQ+ students and our diverse student groups. This position serves as the primary resource person for campus LGBTQ+ support programs and works collaboratively with student leaders, faculty, and staff to manage on-campus student engagement and learning opportunities with a focus on intersectional and holistic student development. The LGBTQ+ and Diversity Coordinator is responsible for the growth and maintenance of Office of Student Involvement LGBTQ+ and diversity initiatives, the creation and implementation of co-curricular programming to support student academic and leadership development, and the cultivation of engagement opportunities that foster a sense of belonging for our LGBTQ+ and diverse student populations.
The LGBTQ+ and Diversity Coordinator provides creative and timely proactive contributions to the department's strategic development and maintains focus on the retention and graduation of LGBTQ+ students and underrepresented minority students. This position will provide oversight for administrative functions of LGBTQ+ and diversity programs including but not limited to department assessment, management and maintenance of program budgets, student-leader training programs, and serving on campus committees. The LGBTQ+ and Diversity Coordinator reports directly to the Director of the Office of Student Involvement. Key Duties:
Develops and ensures program opportunities that meet the needs of underrepresented students, including, but not limited to students of color, LGBTQ+ students, international students, and first-generation students, and to student organizations that promote diversity awareness, understanding, and affinity
Provide organizational development, program design and execution, officer training and transition, and financial management support and advising to diverse student organizations such as PRIZM Queer – Trans – Straight Alliance, Associated Black Collegians, and HisLa
Coordinate student-focused programming related to history and heritage months including Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, and Womyn's Herstory Month
Design, develop, and implement LGBTQ+ programs including Rainbow Welcome, Allies in Action, LGBTQ+ History Month, Lavender Graduation, and Pride Month
Provide administrative support and leadership for the UMSL Safe Zone Program, Multicultural Student Organization Training, and other related training programs for students, faculty, and staff
Develops programs and services that aid in the growth and retention of underrepresented student populations, fosters multicultural awareness and cross-cultural interaction among students, faculty and staff
Collaborate with FYE course coordinators and instructors to ensure robust diversity and inclusion content is forward facing in the curriculum
Maintain and enhance educational, social, support, referral, and resource programs and services for students regarding issues of sexual and gender identities
Conduct assessment and evaluation initiatives utilizing assessment instruments to identify the extent to which LGBTQ+ and diversity initiatives support the University's mission
Oversee the collection and submission of data for the Campus Pride Index
Cultivate and maintain effective, collaborative working relationships with campus partners including the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, faculty and staff, local employers as identified by Career Services, and the general public to assist in the development, promotion and marketing of campus LGBTQ+ and diversity activities.

Shift
40 hours a week. M-F, 8am – 5pm normally – some nights and weekends required. All hours outside of business hours can be flexed in employee's schedule.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in College Student Development, Higher Education, or a related field
Demonstrated experience working with student organizations and/or student involvement
Knowledge of student development theory, legal issues in higher education, and risk management practices
Experience supervising student staff or graduate assistants
The candidate must possess the ability to work effectively in a team and fast-paced environment while meeting strict deadlines. There will also be times when the candidate will be expected to complete tasks, make decisions, and communicate with staff with little or no supervision. Must be able to multitask and take initiative when necessary
Anticipated Hiring Range
Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $20.66 - $22.39 per hour
