What you will do:
Provide professional accounting skills in reconciliation and verification of account balances and financial statement preparation and reporting for fixed/capital assets. This position provides effective administrative and communication skills by representing the Department as the primary representative for the fixed asset accounting program both agency-wide and externally. This position applies advanced accounting theory and knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, fund accounting, State regulations and statutes, systems development, and internal control procedures to record and account for the Department's capital and other inventoried assets.

Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Government Financial Manager certificate AND two years of accounting experience equivalent to Accountant 1 work to include setting-up ledgers, account codes and controls, and modifying accounting systems;
OR
A Bachelor's degree in accounting, or in any discipline that includes or is supplemented by 32 quarter (21 semester) credit hours from an accredited institution in Accounting AND two years of accounting experience equivalent to Accountant 1 work to include setting-up ledgers, account codes and controls, and modifying accounting systems;
OR
32 quarter (21 semester) credit hours from an accredited institution in Accounting AND four years of related accounting experience to include a) classifying, analyzing, and reconciling financial data and records; b) designing, recommending, and installing modifications of accounting methods, procedures, forms, and records; c) preparing financial statements and reports; d) analyzing and interpreting laws, regulations, codes, and ordinances to ensure the legality of financial transactions; and e) analyzing, interpreting, and making recommendations related to accounting transactions, accounts, and account relationships resulting in accounting entries.
NOTE: 15 quarter (10 semester) graduate-level accounting credit hours may substitute for one year of accounting experience. Graduate-level courses used to satisfy the educational requirement may not be used to satisfy the experience requirement.
Special Requirements:
To be hired, you must have a criminal records and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.
You must have a valid driver's license at the time of hire and throughout employment
Note: this position is a hybrid – a minimum of one day per week we need to work in office, more during fiscal year end close

Experience with financial statements and reports, query skills and financial systems
Understanding of, and work experience applying, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or other accounting standards.
Work experience that demonstrates strong attention to detail, the ability to research general accounting issues, and accurate performance of data entry
Experience pulling data and reporting from a data warehouse with tools like OBIEE, Excel or Access.
Ability to use critical thinking and analytical skills to inform independent judgement, initiative, and decision-making
Ability to work independently with general guidance and direction.
Experience with Capital Assets and Capital Construction.
Preference will be given to candidates that have governmental accounting experience

The salary listed is at the non-PERS rate. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) eligible employees will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay the 6% employee contribution to PERS.
