Our Client is an international grant-funded nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential healthcare services to underserved communities around the world. Through strategic partnerships and innovative programs, we strive to make a meaningful impact on global health outcomes.
Our Client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our team. The Controller will play a critical role in overseeing the financial operations of the organization, including leading a small Accounting team, managing the month-end close process, coordinating financial reporting, budget development, audit coordination, and 990 filing. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in nonprofit financial management, particularly with federal grant reporting, and possess strong leadership and analytical skills.
Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage the Accounting team, providing guidance and support to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Oversee the month-end close process, including reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements. Import financial data from country offices and ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Book intercompany transactions and reconcile balances between various entities. Lead the financial reporting process, preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for internal and external stakeholders. Coordinate the development of annual budgets in collaboration with program managers and senior leadership. Manage the audit process, including liaising with external auditors and preparing audit schedules and documentation. Lead the preparation and filing of Form 990 and other regulatory filings in compliance with federal and state requirements. Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making and organizational growth. Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, regulations, and grant requirements. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in similar-sized nonprofit organizations. Extensive experience with federal grant reporting and compliance requirements. Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and best practices. Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels. Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Flexibility to work additional hours as needed to accommodate a dispersed workforce across different time zones.
